They mandated that the government not be able to call them ‘aliens’ anymore, they’re ‘migrants’ (migrants that we demonize while raising the ICE budget and detain them indefinitely in camps)

Biden pardoned a bunch of people convicted of marijuana possession (after they had been released to just ‘clean their records’, and they had to do the paperwork; also didn’t apply to ‘migrants’)

He…uhh…‘reportedly’ thinks Israel killing innocent Palestinians is wrong?

Idk they catch a lot of hate around. There’s another rumor about sexual assault allegations at the national level or at least protecting perpetrators or something

, at least locally they’re one of the most involved orgs. They’ve led a lot of community cleanups and several protests for Palestine which I’ve attended at least one of the latter that went off fine.

Oh is THAT the lines libs are going to use? That actually you aren’t voting for president, you’re voting for the president’s cabinet? That’s a ridiculous line to take but okay. I guess they haven’t tried that one yet so let’s see how it goes for them. Badly I would presume

They do have a point though about the administration being a big part of an election. But sadly for this person (and the other folks that will use this line of thought), I think that a very large amount of people that are anti-Biden are not fans of his team either. So they are just furthering the arguments of even the anti-Biden Dems that are becoming more and more embarrassed of the party they have blindly supported for so long. Which does open some gaps for leftists to maybe at least flip to Green votes for President, or at least start following the lead of protest movements like the pro-Palestine/ceasefire ones.

But we have seen how much rot the “blue no matter who” crowd has just ignored for my entire life from late 80’s to now. The masses have been taught to be loud but not know how to do anything. Being fair Republicans aren’t much better but have learned how to scare their established leaders here and there.

Does blue Maga realize they’re literally indistinguishable from red Maga.

That was literally the Maga argument for Trump in 2016 “he’s not a politician but he knows how to hire the best people so he’ll just have a great set of advisors and cabinet members that will do everything”

Biden has been an incredibly competent president and there are hours upon hours and hours of him speaking cogently.

This is Jon jumping on a narrative that just is based on patent fabrication.

I have to ask you: if the clips of Biden gaffes were coming from Fox, would we all be taking them at face value? Is it possible to conceive that the same kind of thing is happening with other outlets? It’s wholesale fabrication of a narrative. It’s really harrowing to watch.

The man regularly gives the State of the Union for fuck’s sake! We watch him speak for literal hours!

And yes, Jon throws in a little disclaimer at the end to the effect of “I’m not saying that these candidates aren’t vibrant and capable.” The issue with there is that he JUST spent fifteen minutes doing just that.

I grew up watching Stewart and his work has helped shape my worldview and help me sniff out BS but this is really disappointing.

I get that anti-Trump comedy is super stale and he wants to come out of the gates fresh and with punchy material, but it’s just so… South Park circa 2002.

In their defense that rally to restore sanity shit was pretty much the high water mark for libs preferring to be smug to winning electoral power.

But I’d be willing to bet that’s not the argument they’re making.

I would guess that he was maybe hoping (foolishly) to freak out the Dem leadership and elected folks to wake up and break from what they always have done. Which is just always bow to conservatives and act like “bipartisanship” and “norms” are sacred above doing shit their own voters want/need. They saw the way Bernie and people like Stewart are able to get people jazzed-up and even inspire. And they went out of their way to undo all of it in the name of moderate/centrist can kicking. So done with the “we hear you and see you, but our hands are tied by insert excuse” excuse. At this point anyone that thinks Dem leaders are “fixable” and can in any way be trusted to fight for anything are just in the worst levels of denial.

American electoralism has come down to this. Each state has an independent election to elect formal electors, each of which casts a vote for president, a man who will be controlled and held up as a figure head by his own administration, and our chances at democratic influence lie in somehow signaling through 3 layers of indirection to influence the decisions of the unelected administration officials. Right.

Ok let’s apply that to Biden’s administration.

It acted like COVID magically went away or became the flu, ended COVID relief programs, fought rail unions tooth and nail on a new contract that included improved safety regulations all while the blatant disregard for rail safety was on full display, stood by as the Supreme Court struck down Roe v Wade and made decisions that greatly affected the right of POC and the LGBTQA community, whole heartedly feed an entire country (Ukraine) to the meat grinder to weaken Russia unsuccessfully, and is currently covering Israel’s ongoing genocide of Palestenians by regurgitating Israeli propaganda and providing military and material support.

Wow I really want these people to stick arounddean-smile

A few years ago a lib coworker showed me a clip on YouTube.

Every “joke” felt like it was written by a committee of libs, trying to make the most inoffensive material possible while pandering to DNC libs.

Because it was written by a committee. You really think a guy who spent all his life in South Africa understands the ins and outs of US politics and culture? He’s just there to deliver the jokes and collect a paycheck.

He just fundamentally did not understand American politics and the culture/society around it, which meant all his jokes fell flat. There may be many similarities between South Africa and the United States, but there are also many key differences. That kind of thing is important to understand when your entire job revolves around making jokes about American society and politics, and he just did not get it.

Pretty funny because he actually understands what he’s talking about. A lot of his South African specials have aged really poorly in hindsight though, especially when he went through his edgy phase in the early 2010s. Most infamous clip from that was when he made fun of striking miners. Lots of sexist and antisemitic jokes about Jewish women as well, but the latter was limited to text based social media like Twitter and never made an appearance on his comedy specials, as far as I remember.
