Technically, if lightning killed a cow in that year, and someone ate that cow, then the consumption should be greater than zero.
Technically, if I wore a condom that night in 1996, you shouldn’t exist - but, hey, life has a way of surprising us.
I mean, action potentials are life. Every living cell is consuming/producing electricity constantly. Lightning not required: every time you eat or drink anything that contributes to a charge gradient (which is literally every time you eat or drink anything) you’re consuming electricity.
The records are impressively accurate and complete for the time period too.
Too bad it’s rounded to one digit, it’s so hard to find more detailed data about that period.
