It is generally considered rude to tell people to g! it themselves. Perhaps that was your intent but I hope you’re a bigger person than that and it was unintentional.

Social media is for conversations. I think everyone knows how to search the interwebs.

No, it was fully intentionally. I hate when people do “tldr”, because I consider that rude. Rudeness in, rudeness out. I went to the effort to find and link a video explaining what this dude did, only to get told it was too much effort to watch.

I agree with you, I hate it when people expect easily findable information to be spoon fed to them. It would be one thing if they were asking to have special relativity explained to them, but this was just laziness.

And the headline even says he was jailed for child sex offenses. That’s the tldr explanation right there if a video was too much.

After finding out what the password to his laptop was, I wanted to puke.

His password was “IFUCKKIDZ” spelled as indicated. That’s the disturbing part, it’s like internally, he was proud of it. No shame.

If you ever watched Chris Hansen’s old To Catch A Predator series, or his new series, these guys usually find a way to delude themselves into thinking they’re not the way they are, or that they’re somehow helping the victim, and I can only assume they lie to themselves because they know what they are doing is wrong and feel some shame.

Not Ian Watkins. He was proud of it. Ugh. Later in the video, after the password, you find out he even bragged about it. I had to stop there, I couldn’t even finish the video (linked by OP in comment).

Yeah the people on “to catch a predator” are disgusting, but there is a difference between “trying to seduce an underage girl into sex” and “raping a literal baby.” He’s on another level of being the worst version of a human being

Yeah. Charlie “Normie Jesus” Moistcritical is not the best person to look to for takes on nuanced situations. But he is of the age to have grown up loving lostprophets and did a REALLY good video summarizing how massively fucked up an evil all of this is.

Like, most 80s bands have blatant pedophiles involved. And as much as I love the lead singer on twitter, Eve 6 has some fucked up stories associated with them. But all of this is “normal” carnie/musician bullshit. ian watkins is on a completely different levels of evil.

Some bands and artists you try to ignore the “controversy” in favor of separating the art from the artist. Others are so massively fucked up that you fundamentally cannot.

Oh dear, I don’t know any of the Eve6 controversy… Nothing on Wikipedia for the band, and a quick Google search just gives results about them boycotting Spotify. What should I be looking for?

Nothing too bad relative to contemporaries (like I said, carnie/musician bullshit normalizes a lot of crap) but a LOT of “groupie” stories.

Good. Now, with any luck, he’ll heal up so he can go back to prison scared and live in fear of his next attack. And with any more luck, that will happen again, and again, and again, and again…

Couldn’t have happened to a better guy. I hope every second of his life is agony.

On a related note: Loved lostprophets growing up but it is obviously unlistenable at this point (even if Fake Sound of Progress still pops into my head every so often). Any recommendations for bands with a similar sound but not a horrifically evil pedophile involved? Because I love me some numetal/buttrock and lostprophets always had their own vibe that distinguished them from Linkin Park (RIP Chester) and (probably) Hoobastank.

I’ve never been able to find a band even close to the sound Lostprophets had and it’s sad because I just can’t bring myself to listen to them again.

Weren’t the rest of the band starting a band with the Thursday singer when all this went down?

I didn’t bother to check out what came of that as I can’t stand Thursday singers voice.

I’m not sure if this will scratch the itch or not but give the band Finch a try. I don’t think they’re still together but their album What it is to Burn may do it for you. I actually think their follow up Say Hello to Sunshine is incredible - far better than their debut, but it is also significantly heavier.

LOVED Finch and still listen to a weird (live?) version of What it is to Burn on a regular basis. But very different vibe.

The closest I’ve found to lostprophets over the years is some of the earlier work by Sim where they basically do ska+numetal. But they’ve also gone a LOT harder since they became… basically every single anime opening song in existence. Stuff like A and Sound of Breath (and to a much lesser extent, Rosso and Dry) feel like they are no longer something that band has an interest in doing.

I’m always partial to Thrice as far as that vein goes. Senses Fail is a little more Emo but made it on similar playlists to me back in the day.

I get this, and I’m the same—purged all LP from my library when I learned about this scumbag.

But, I still listen to Michael Jackson!
Can’t wrap my head around that.
I mean, I love Smooth Criminal man (no pun intended). That music video is *Chef’s kith*.

Michael Jackson was acquitted. Weird guy? Yes. I’m sure he was fucked up from his father’s abuse. But that doesn’t automatically make him a child molester.

It’s never too late. He’s got to go back to prison, maybe another inmate will take the initiative.

Shinobi Vs Dragon ninja was and is an absolute masterpiece. Sadly I don’t want to listen to it any more as Ian has ruined any joy I could get out of listening to it since the news of his abhorrent dealings came out.
