Depending on who I ask here, Sync is either a caveman brained or enlightened choice.
sync is just a more polished app since it came from reddit. but infinity is the same, and boost will be the same too.
chose the app you like most and support its dev.
(posted from sync)
Still have a faint hope for Relay
For those of us that have used Sync for a long time it has a lot of ui/ux options and we know how to find them.
I’m stuck on phase two. Digging it, though.
Jerboa has been criticality underrated since its first or second post-exodus update. I’ve tried almost all of these (and Connect) and other than when .world is having issues but still reachable by Voyager, I use Jerboa.
Don’t forget Connect! It’s probably the most complete Lemmy app right now. The “About Instance” function is amazing for getting a list of communities on a given instance with actual working links for subscribing.
For folks curious, [email protected] is the Infinity fork community. Dev is quite active :).
Using Connect:
Have a link? Is it open source?
It’s not FOSS but it’s currently free and without ads.
It is not open source. Apparently the creator is considering making it open source once he’s cleaned up the code a bit. For whatever that’s worth.
Mmhmm.
Not open source, I’m out then.
I honestly don’t get the “gotta clean up the code first” stance. Like sure, you don’t want to publish complete spaghetti code without comments. But like, it can’t be that bad right?
Besides, the point of open source is collaboration and so he doesn’t have to do all the “clean up” by himself.Yeah, I totally agree. I suspect that some people use it as an excuse because they don’t actually want to publish the code.
I feel it’s used as a minipulation tactic.
- FOSS people don’t want to use closed source software.
- Lie and say you’ll “consider” open source-ing later even though you have no intention of ever doing so.
- Profit.
Here’s a play store link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kuroneko.lemmy_connect
Where is the “About Instance” feature?
- Tap the three dots overflow menu:
- Select About Instance:
- Select View Communities:
Thanks. I found that earlier. I tried to edit comment. There’s a feature on my app that says “add user comment”… I thought that equaled an edited comment that indicated 'I found the answer".
Voyager (now as native app) 👨🍳😙👌
Voyager is nice, but since it’s a native app I can’t download pictures anymore, so I switched to infinity and got used to it…
Yea the only way to do it from Voyagers native app right now is to open the link in your browser. You can hit the share button on Voyager and send the post link to your browser.
This feature can still be added to native apps. RiF used to have a simple hold and save feature. I hope they add that feature soon. I imagine we aren’t the only ones who noticed.
Yup, feels like Apollo before 😊
Honestly my biggest complaint is that so far only Sync seems to have a built-in browser. I don’t like having things redirected to my browser.
Infinity for Lemmy has the option to open links with an in-app browser or with an external one.
Oh that’s awesome! Do you know if there’s a way to flip the thumbnails from the right side to the left?

Dumb question… I went to beehaw.org on my mobile browser, and clicked “install”. Which app does that mean I’m using?
You’re using your browser and the beehaw website as a PWA (progressive web app)
thanks. so I guess I need to try out one of the actual-apps. Just when I thought I was keeping up with the cool kids…
Haha it’s a valid way of using Lemmy (and other websites!) but yeah, in the meme they’re all android apps. Some are on the play store, some are in beta on github. Not sure which of these (if any) are available on iOS. There’s also Connect which some people like. I prefer Sync personally, but Liftoff is pretty good.
Web app
Using Infinity right now!
Guess you never tried Thunder
Just tried it. Seems cool, but slightly laggy on my phone. Infinity runs butter smooth!
I can’t remember why I skipped thunder, I think it’s because it doesn’t autoplay gifs without opening it.
Also, whenever I opened it I saw it connect to so many servers that it made me worried a bit (probably overthink it), but it’s not the home screen itself because obviously liftoff for example shows the same and doesn’t connect to the same servers thunder did.
Edit: maybe liftoff pull the content from my instance while thunder take it straight from the source?
I just can’t decide between Sync and Voyager.
How many posts on this topics are gonna be, can’t we put this to rest???
Welcome to the lemmy apps great war
The war has just reached a point in infinity
Infinity makes me feel like nothing has changed
Was using infinity on Reddit and was waiting for a good fork for lemmy. Really feels like home now.
Same. Liftoff was/is a great backup though!
Rn the state of Infinity for Lemmy feels mostly complete (aside from a few expected bugs built from being a fork working with a totally different API), but besides that, the app is absolutely fire. I was a heavy IfR user in the past and it even convinced me to make an account (I was mostly a lurker) but when spez starting treating 3rd party devs like shit I gtfo there, just hoping that docille or another dev would have forked infinity and yet, here we are.
You can use any client you want guys . Lemmy wins
Lemmy winks ?
Probably the first comment that doesn’t bash on anyone since this whole thing started.
How does Infinity compare to Sync ? I’m considering switching clients since my having paid for Reddit Sync Pro does not entitle me to Lemmy Sync’s “remove ads” (I still have to pay 16e, which is way too much).
I wasn’t very impressed with sync when I tried it out after all the hype: maybe because I’ve been a long time infinity user. I can’t give a fair comparison since I haven’t given sync too much of a chance, but here’s what I like about infinity:
- FOSS, on fdroid (fdroid >> play store for me)
- nice UI - adjustable font sizes, top comment scrolling
- multiple account support
- dark mode is pretty dark (yeah, I really like dark mode)
- fairly stable
Thanks for taking the time to write this. I’ll give it a shot
