Wrapping up its first season, I think we’re supposed to get a harvest starting year three.

Yes, and then you have an asparagus bed for 5-15 years. After the soil is depleted, you can’t use that patch of soil anymore for asparagus for like 30 years. Source: my parents have always had at least one, usually two, beds of asparagus.

This is mostly for entertainment, not harvest yield.
good for getting a stick or two, or for growing seed asparagus, but asparagus gets big. real big.
Only if you let it go. If you’re cutting it for eating, it only gets as big as you let it. (And if you let it grow past normal eating size, it won’t be very good to eat.)
Yeah if you dont harvest it while its practically just emerged, you are just eating wood.
Good to know it’s ok that my asparagus looks the same in its second year. It’s a little unruly. Haha.
That’s cool. Also TIL asparagus foliage looks a lot like dill.
You won’t get too much from this. But that’s not what counts :D. Rooting for a great harvest… maybe next year.
