How is it whitewashing when the woman was white to begin with?

EDIT: Misunderstood the term, though it was being used in a new context. I’m leaving my idiot comment for all to see.

Man, Stalin would have loved this tech… Even with just film, the USSR was able to make some impressive photo edits to remove politicians that Stalin had “purged,” from previous photographs.

Because I guess that means they never existed?

    Apt metaphor of our times.

Greenwashing, social media highlight reels, worship of the affluent, grind culture, etc.

Putting a fake, stepford face to obfuscate the horrors we refuse to address, using unethical(theft) technology being shoved down our throats for profit no less.

Gotta add a splash of sex. Unbutton a couple more on that shirt and enhance the pic with tasteful cleavage, so we can ignore the surroundings.

I was just reminded of this starting up the Tomb Raider I-III trilogy.

Just like Looney Tunes, they added a disclaimer; paraphrased “This rerelease depicts certain cultures in a light we do not agree with - we’ve preserved the work to avoid pretending this never happened”

On a more minor note, I’m very sick of the TikTok trend of censoring words like “kill” into “unalive”. It has even made it hard for victims to talk about brutal subjects. It’ll happen to you, you just aren’t allowed to talk about it because that might upset people.

That was done specifically to limit police video distributions, YouTube doesn’t allow references to violence unless a large mainstream news network posts it.

They’re starting to even remove court cases that are on touchy subjects.

It’s so fucking disgusting reading comments in Steam “discussions” lately…

I came across a facebook post criticizing the character model of Angela from the new Silent Hill 2 Remake. Thousands of people liked the post which called the model of the remake ugly and less feminine. The character is a teenager and victim of sexual assault…

Am I the only one who would find the woman at the left more attractive?

The right just looks like plastic to me, same with all of these instagram influencer ladies who have more plastic surgeries than I have fingers.

People can look however they would like, whether that’s plastic or dust bowl struggle chic. What’s wrong here is that an unrelated party has decided to change someone’s appearance based on their own preferences.

I don’t know whether to feel angry or sad looking at this but it definitely makes me feel uncomfortable and gross that’s for sure. It’s like someone making you your favorite dish for dinner and then just covering it in jello.

One kind of misery does not negate the existence of other kinds of misery. The pain of living through the Great Depression is different from the pain of seeing reality eroded away into propaganda for the highest bidders, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be fighting to end misery.

There are more human slaves alive on Earth today than at any previous point in history.

There are more people alive today then any other point in human history. Do you have slaves per capita?

I doubt it. The Roman Empire alone at its height had a population of 50-90 million with roughly a quarter of that enslaved.

Even with extremely inclusive definitions of slavery (which are also not included in the classical count) the modern estimates of the total number of slaves is like 40-50 million. It’s too many, obviously, but classical period Europe, Africa, and Asia alone would crush those numbers, and the 'New World" didn’t appear out of nowhere when Columbus stumbled into it.

Just read the plot of grapes of wrath, uhhh, you do understand that the story is about late stage capitalism right? And the person you were responding to is saying how we live in similar times right?

Its like someone saying poison can kill you and you respond with: see this story about how bad lots of poison is… yeah… that’s the point.

I remember a scene in Grapes where they realized their ground beef had sawdust in it, and then decided to eat it anyway.

          Have you read it?

“Woke” originally meant “aware of and well-informed about systemic social issues affecting everyday people”. Conservatives have co-opted this word and use it to describe anything associated with leftism or social liberalism. It is intended to be negative in that context.

“DEI” stands for “diversity, equity, and inclusion”. It refers to policies that intentionally include people of diverse or minority backgrounds in the context of employment or political appointment. Conservatives use it to describe (in their view) hiring practices that select less-qualified candidates of these backgrounds against the favour of those who may be more qualified. In that usage, a “DEI hire” or “diversity hire” is a person hired or appointed solely on the basis of their race, gender, or some other status as a minority even though they are not qualified for the role.

Conservatives use “woke” to mean the same thing leftists mean when they say “redpilled”: edgy people roleplaying enlightenment instead of actually seeking it.
