Does anyone mind elaborating why it is/was called sync and what it’s/was used for? Did it sync with anything or is it just another app like Apollo and RIF?
It originally had a “sync” feature that would download your frontpage and all the comments (and/or other chosen subreddits as well I think) for offline browsing. It was very useful when I used to commute via bus and had a very spotty internet connection.
I used it on plane flights
Huh, it’s an interesting piece of history. Was this feature deprecated, or did I just never found it/forgot about it?
It may have been deprecated? I hadn’t used it in a few years
it’s still in the app, just that you have to find it
The sync dev is doing it right by redirecting their users to the next project. Looking forward to sync for Lemmy!
Hoping the Fediverse can be better synchronized so users can more easily interact between Kbin and Lemmy.
I haven’t noticed any problem interacting between the two. Is there something I haven’t noticed yet?
The instances vary. Some are currently federating better than others, the servers that are currently in higher loads are dropping activity more often and not syncing as well.
Welp, since my earlier comment I’ve seen lots of syncing issues. lol
I only heard about Lemmy cuz of that message.
RIP?, i’m only seeing upgrades
I see this as an absolute win.
Looking forward to sync for lemmy

Long time sync pro user, theres a work around with revanced manager but eh. So far Infinity is still working though
RiF is still going as well, as long as you’re not logged in.
I used Sync for years, it’s sad to see it go. There’s no way I’m going back to Reddit’s official app.
friendship ended with Sync for Reddit, now Sync for Lemmy is my best friend
When they say it’s for Lemmy, does that also include Kbin?
I’d hope so but since they’re built a little different that might require some extra work. I also don’t know if the developers even know of kbins existence since people usually talk about Lemmy when they talk about the fediverse. We’d probably have to bring it to their attention ourselves.
I’m hoping they develop it for Kbin.
and im here praying for Apollo for lemmy. you lucky android users :(
nuff said mlem and memmy are still some pretty good apps for what they are currently tho (plus they are both inspired by Apollo).
wefwef?
If you haven’t already, check out this PWA that is extremely Apollo-like!
oooo thanks for showing me that, im currently using memmy as it’s the most apollo-like for me currently but that’s just straight up feels right at home for me tysm
You are most welcome! Yeah it’s pretty much a rip of Apollo. I’m hoping the Apollo dev might look into a Lemmy app down the road, kind of the like Sync Pro developers are, but in any case, this PWA has been pretty good to me thus far!

but i kinda want a native app tho. but oh well, most “native” apps these days are just PWAs in an electron powered trench coat so id maybe it wont be as bad as im imagining rn
Most welcome!

I also want a native app, and have had a similar experience with many PWAs, however this one feels pretty dang good. So at least there’s that!

RiF user. So proud of what everyone is pulling here. Everyone united, no matter the app, for the same goal. A new “home” on the web.
Its not the web anymore bro. It the Internet. But hopefully we can change that!
What are you talking about? Seriously, I don’t understand. Are you trying to make a joke?
If you’re serious:
The Web—short for World Wide Web— is the software on top of it all, i.e. the series of networked websites we all enjoy; the Internet is the hardware behind it all, i.e. the series of networked computers and servers behind it all.
It’s still the Web, which is still hosted on the Internet. They are not cultural terms that shift with public opinion.
If you’re joking:
Well, then I just don’t get it and I apologize for my social ineptitude. :P
Yes, it was a joke, and a bad one at that lol. I’m not THAT dumb, it was a reference to the dead internet post where the writer starts off by saying “the web is dead, long live the internet” saying how the “web” or internet on the early 200’s has become so corprotized and whit washed that its more bots then humans at this point.
Ahhhhhhh. Sorry about that. That joke I guess was a bit before my time. I grew up in the 90s and 00s but had a very sheltered childhood. Didn’t end up really getting exposed to the Internet proper until about the 10s. :)
No problem bro, wasint till I was 13 that I started using the internet.
You kids and your funny words. let’s meet in the middle: “A new home on this series of tubes”
the GOAT is dead, long live the GOAT!
Will my Sync Pro for Reddit licence carry over to Sync Pro for Lemmy?
If not, that’s fine, but I’ll wait it out to see which developer crrates the best front end before giving them my money.
These apps cost pocket change considering how expensive life is right now. I can’t think of anything else where I get so much value out of so little.
We have to be willing to pay out of pocket to support a competition if we’re not happy with the way reddit is making money.
Even if pro subscription carries over I’m still buying it again. Sync was the best android client!
I don’t disagree at all 😁👍
Can’t concentrate on anything but the 2% battery left. What kind of animal are you?
An animal with a broken charging port. Used my OnePlus 6t forever ago, the port doesn’t work right and there’s no wireless charging
I used an ifixit Article to replace my pixel screen a while back, I don’t think chargers are too difficult and are relatively inexpensive.
