Ok, I still laughed, but it would have been a bit funnier if instead of Santa it still said “Saddam Hussein” with the Santa Hat, maybe a beard, and a bag of presents.

What about this Saddam Hussein graphic was so funny that it made it worth meming? Like what element to this joke am I missing?
I believe the graphic was uncharacteristically low quality (for the BBC?), which is why looking for the original source today, you’ll only find archive links. Because the original illustration was quickly replaced.
