The Justice Department is seeking 33 years in prison for Enrique Tarrio, the former Proud Boys leader convicted of seditious conspiracy in one of the most serious cases to emerge from the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to court documents filed Thursday.

I wonder how proud he will be as an old man pushing 70 and still in prison. Long after the world has forgotten all about him.

My understanding is that they can seek pretty much whatever they want. But ultimately the actual prison sentence is based on the evidence. 33 years will be just what the prosecution has calculated, based on his crimes and their interpretation of the sentencing rules, but there are other factors such as how cooperative he is during the trial, maybe he grows a brain. Then there is a limited amount of judge discretion on top of that.

So he may get well less than 33 years.

Although I can’t reasonably see it being less than 10. So this idiots out of the picture essentially whatever unless somehow the trial falls through.

He led the neo-fascist group — known for street fights with left-wing activists — when Trump infamously told the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by” during his first debate with Democrat Joe Biden.

I still want the actual leaders to spend more time in jail than their followers.

Given that Tarrio wasn’t even in DC on Jan 6, convicting him at all was a big win.

Is that Trump’s best defense too? That since he was away from the actual scene of the crime he can’t be held accountable? Never mind that he led and supported the insurrection movement?

Wasn’t he an informant on top of everything? Still gotta read the article to see if they mention that
