Summary

Trump supporters are calling to defund PBS after it reported that Elon Musk’s post-inauguration gesture resembled a Nazi salute.

PBS described it as “similar to the ‘Sieg Heil’ used by Nazis,” sparking conservative backlash, with figures like Tomi Lahren and Rep. Andy Biggs accusing PBS of propaganda.

Musk denied the claim and criticized “legacy media” and Wikipedia for bias.

Calls to defund PBS align with longstanding conservative goals and plans like Project 2025, which includes eliminating public media funding under a new Trump administration.

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

Orwell thought The Party would be directing it all, but this is all sufficiently self-directing, much more akin to what Huxley/Bradbury predicted. People are paying for the privilege of being lied to and running interference for The Party without needing to be coerced with fear of The Party. They only fear The Other.

Oh but they’ll still take direction from the party and alter their reality again. “That wasn’t a Nazi Salute! The left are all morons and liars!” “Oh Trump says we’re taking it back from the Nazis… so it was a Nazi Salute, but in a patriotic way!” “Oh, Trump says Hitler was a historical hero… SEIG HEIL!”

Exactly, just like Jan 6thers were antifa trying to make Trump look bad, but he just pardoned all of them and the followers celebrated…

It’s that Sartre quote about anti-semites and how they don’t actually have any real arguments or principles and will always say whatever to win.

Given how fast generative AI is advancing I’m afraid we are only years away from not being able to trust even video evidence

That reminds me of a trip to Vegas with some friends.

Outside our hotel was the PBR bar.

So we thought, hell yeah, drink some shitty cheap beer in the sun before we walk down the strip to… whatever.

        Nope, Professional Bull Riding bar.

I don’t recall what I ate (that would a trend for the trip, I was hung over for a week after I got home) but I remember it was pretty tasty.

How do you defund something that runs on charity from the people who watch it (and also a large contribution from the Koch brothers)? Do these dumbfucks think PBS is paid for by tax money? Every single program I’ve ever seen on PBS explicitly states it’s paid for by viewers (and again, the Koch brothers).

PBS is also funded by a grant from the government.

It’s a small portion of their funding at this point but still essential.

I remember a street interview while (least 10 years) back where elderly people said pbs was 5 to 25% of federal government budget. Like wtf you confuse question with military?

    “pure propaganda”

As in: “We want pure propaganda! We don’t want any media whatsoever to ever say anything that we don’t like or already agree with! You say Trump is God or you get defunded!!”

They’ve been after PBS pretty hard. It’s probably the one thing that stands between them owning all media in this country.

Conservatives have had a hard on for shutting down PBS for years. It’s one of the really mainstream liberal talking points to be like “why do you hate big bird?!”

Even if you think it wasn’t I’m going to keep saying it was. Know why?

If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do

It’s not a “salute”, it’s a Nazi salute, from a Nazi, to tell the world, “I’m a powerful Nazi and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

It’s time we did something about it.

And Wikipedia. Lol they’ll throw anything they don’t like in as a seed to further their fuck face agenda.

So, what you’re saying is that you personally did a big search yourself and couldn’t find anything that made you think Trump was thinking about doing this? Nothing at all from any reliable source?

Also, I didn’t use the newest article I could find, I picked the first I could find from a Right source so there’d be no possible bias.

no. i said what i meant. your article is irrelevant to the current controversy. putting words in my mouth is the height of bad faith interaction, though.

It’s called ‘sarcasm.’ Obviously, I didn’t expect you to do any research whatever. I did expect you to ignore my explanation, so I’m two for two.

And yet, it’s not whatsoever difficult to imagine the dictator in chief pulling their funding for this, and I won’t be surprised if it happens. I hope there’s something left of the country I grew up in four years from now. I think we’re at the start of a long, rough road.
