Summary

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka criticized ICE agents for “raiding” a local business without a warrant, detaining several individuals, including U.S. citizens, a military veteran, and undocumented immigrants.

Baraka called the actions a violation of the Fourth Amendment, which protects against unlawful searches and seizures, and vowed Newark would not tolerate such behavior.

ICE confirmed the operation was part of an active investigation, claiming they may request IDs to verify identities during fieldwork.

Can’t wait for them to start cracking down on business owners who knowingly hire illegal immigrants to not have to pay minimum (already criminally low) wages

Is this a joke? ICE is never going to target business owners and even if ICE did, they’d face no punishment.

Low hanging fruit for Democrats… they should introduce a bill with criminal punishment for knowingly employing undocumented. 1 month per employee, per year maybe.

Would be funny to see Republicans twist themselves up into a pretzel arguing against it.

Or Rs would pass it and now undocumented folks have an even harder time finding employment. Seems like playing chicken with the livelihoods of undocumented folks

I guess. But we need to deal with the issue one way or another, it only gets worse the longer people are here undocumented.

My preferred solution would just be a path to citizenship though. Especially for anyone who has children and or community roots. I guess we also need a robust visa work program as well, if we want to continue to pay low wages for certain sectors.

Absolutely. A better path to citizenship or even just residency would need to exist to avoid these kinds of abuses. But that’s obviously why the system is the way that it is. It helps businesses to have a broken immigration system, because it ensures a workforce that can be exploited.

I’m having similar feelings. ICE is building an “office building” near me that conveniently has underground tunnels to transport office workers and high fences to keep these workers from leaving. I can’t tolerate this.

The protesters in Hong Kong years ago inspired me to look into supportive tactics. Putting yourself in a position to help others helped me, and it may help you. Learning resistive tactics like combatting crowd suppression tactics was especially inspiring. We have to be ready to resist however we can.

I wonder what their basis for detaining people is…

They detained U.S. citizens and a military vet. Were they just detaining people because they looked like immigrants? Are they literally just detaining brown people?

I made a comment about a week ago on a post when they first said they were gonna do this asking how long it’ll take for it to go from detaining immigrants to just brown people. Guess we didn’t have to wait long, Jesus fucking Christ.

An article I read also stated they didn’t question the Portuguese immigrants.

It’s really scary that this isn’t any sort of meme now. This is the literal image that these psychos have when looking at POC

Yeah, sounds like it’s basically just: “AUFMACHEN!” followed by detaining everyone who looks ‘suspicious.’

Sounds vaguely familiar… something that happened in the past somewhere?

The statement continued “Newark will not stand by idly while people are unlawfully terrorized.”

Unless this means that the mayor and police chief agree to deploy Newark Police to physically stop and detain ICE agents, knowing damn well that a confrontation could end in a bloodbath, that is exactly what they will do.

People need to get it through their heads that we are entering a period of federal lawlessness. They’re hoping you only have the balls to challenge them in court where they can tie things up for months or years while they do whatever they want and consolidate even more power, setting progressively darker precedents.

Bullshit! It would absolutely not. Feds and local cops butt heads all the time, and never leads to a bloodbath, just bruised egos. Local cops would probably love the chance to be the ones to take something away from a federal agency.

Just gonna grab everyone and figure it out later. How many days until an innocent citizen gets caught (or targeted) in a blaze of gunfire and loses their life? Will these ICE agents face any scrutiny? Or is ICE just another word for the SS?

But I guess we are all too busy on TikTok to even notice.

Also something that happened 100 years ago. The US deported thousands of US citizens because they were Hispanic.

I own that movie and every since Trump won it’s exactly how I believe it will go down. If you speak Spanish I be careful where you do it. People in Texas lately have been itching to have anyone who does round up.

Try explain to my dad just because they speak Spanish doesn’t make them illegal. But him and rest mega don’t believe it or the truth don’t care.

I mean at this rate, by the end of his term they will be rounding up Democrats. If he can somehow survive for a third term, they will be rounding up anyone who won’t take a DJT loyalty pledge and tithe some of their income…

Now that I am thinking about it… I could totally see him exchanging tax favors to literally anyone who would divert a portion of those savings into his personal funds.
