I had no idea it was this much.

The article doesn’t say, but I wonder how much we export?

Why would people in other countries buy our beer? It’s nothing special and certainly far inferior to beers from Europe, Americas, and Japan. I don’t have experience with Chinese beers but I bet they also make better beers than us.

For me Asahi Super Dry rules supreme.

Also, it’s for the whole brewing industry, so that would also include wages and other input costs etc.

        Never even heard of that.

We aren’t talking about bespoke, hand crafted artisan beers though.

I thought that’s exactly what we were talking about, from the article:

“Locally brewed beer is a source of regional pride, driving tourism and community initiatives. From the thriving craft breweries of Otago to the innovative exporters in Taranaki, this report highlights the diverse and vibrant role of brewing in shaping regional economies,” said Brewers Guild executive director Melanie Kees.

Garage Project were at most local liquor stores as I recall before I left NZ in 2021. I grabbed a pack of them last weekend in regional Western Australia. The local offerings are no less expensive these days.

So, you’re only buying and drinking the main brands of beer, haven’t even heard of probably our best known craft brewery, but think all our beer is shit?
