A bill to add a carving of President Donald Trumpto Mount Rushmore has been introduced by a MAGA politician.

Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna announced the bill Tuesday calling for Trump to be added to the South Dakota monument with the message: “Let’s get carving.”

I’m actually okay with this because it’s bizarro and devalues the assholes already on the mountain. Good let’s reveal the farce for what it is!

He would only sign it if they carved away all the other faces to have only his on the whole mountain. He doesn’t share.

Mount Rushmore was intentionally done to insult Lakota/Dakota people anyway. The “Six Grandfathers” were sacred, and Mount Rushmore was intentional defacement and sacrilege.

I mean this won’t happen, but I kinda threw up in my mouth a little bit.

The one thing keeping me sane is the realization that that old crusty piece of shit will be dead soon, and I’ll never have to see their rapist face again.

It’s just Republicans trolling after Nancy pants said Joe should be on Mount Rushmore.

          Her exact words were

such a consequential President of the United States, a Mount Rushmore kind of President

You have Teddy Roosevelt up there and he’s wonderful. I don’t say take him down. But you can add Biden

So a single sycophantic congresswoman from Florida introduces a bill with no budget, no analysis on its feasibility, and no widespread interest from the Republican base; a bill that hasn’t even gone to committee, yet alone be eligible for a vote; and you think that equals “they have the votes for it”?

Jesus fucking Christ, take a few minutes to learn just the bare fucking basics of how the government works. There’s a Schoolhouse Rock video that even explains it nicely in song form.

ANY congressperson can submit a bill for anything. It doesn’t take much at all. Tomorrow a congressperson could submit a bill saying that nails are illegal and all meat products are to be replaced by stone figurines of Marie Antoinette. It doesn’t mean anything! Congresspeople create this kind of crap literally all the time! It’s not worth talking about until it has slightly more than a snowball’s chance in hell of having support.

They do not have the votes. There’s still the filibuster in the senate and unless they are willing to blow that up (they likely aren’t) this bill will be dead in the senate.

You don’t think they’ll “blow up” the filibuster, but not make it contingent on only when republicans are in power?

Rules haven’t mattered for decades. Why would they start now?

The rockface isn’t actually sufficently stable to survive adding a 5th face.

They try to add Trumpo, they’re very likely to end up with NO faces.

So yeah, I doubt they’d actually go through with it.

Like any of the GOP give a second though to logistics, cost, or ethics for their vanity projects? Like Trump isn’t used to half assing construction jobs? Like he isn’t above blowing Lincoln’s face to bits to replace it with his own if he has to?

At that point might as well just do it Taliban style. A row of tanks shoot at it until the mountain is just a mountain again.

Build the shitty Trump carving, let people pay to shoot tanks at it, and use it to fundraise to build the Crazy Horse monument.

You’ll appreciate this story about a story.

Asimov once wrote a science fiction mystery about a murder committed during a game of pool.

He gave it to the editor with the title ‘Billiard Ball.’

The editor liked it, but he told Isaac that a punnier title would have be “Dirty Pool.”

Oh it doesn’t mean it won’t happen, they’re just as likely to fuck up the whole thing by trying it anyway.
We can obviously listen to the science of it and know it won’t work, but they don’t believe in science.

I’m just hopeful enough that ‘If you do this, you stand a very very good chance of completely destroying a national monument.’ is enough to get at least a few of the less-nutty Republicans to balk.

If nothing else, we love our monuments and symbols, and destroying one to put his face on it is proooobbbbaaaallllllly too far, still.

It would be vandalized very quickly, which could be a nice outlet for a lot of people.

With time it would probably turn orange from all the piss too.

A carving of Trumps face is hardly a national monument anymore than a statue of Lenin or Saddam Hussein was.

As much as I like the thought, I’ve been to Mt. Rushmore and I don’t think vandalizing it would be easily achieved. Maybe with a drone or paintball gun - the first time - after that I think they’d be prepared. There is national parks apparatus surrounding it IIRC.

Also Security by bigotry, which I am not sure works that well since you always end up just hiring the badguys and empowering them instead of protecting people from them.

Edit* I know all people in SD aren’t bigots, forgive me if my tone is a bit harsh these days…

You think they’re gonna not defund the National parks service? They’re basically the “don’t ruin nature” police, and the people in charge now don’t fucking care about nature.

Well one, the GOP has control of both chambers, so nothing that gets introduced, no matter how dumb, is safe from passing through votes from both. Especially as none of them want to directly piss off Trump.

And two, even if this has zero chance of passing, it’s still a beyond absurd performative piece of legislation playing up the already inflated ego of a megalomaniac who is surrounded by sycophants and brown nosing opportunists constantly seeking to further puff up the already inflated orange head of an objectively weird, stupid, selfish, hateful criminal for the chance to earn some bit of his favor and maybe absorb some of his power and influence in the process. If that sort of openly unethical and cultish behavior from a sitting congressperson is not worth getting “excited” about, what is?

…and thus the system functions like an Idiot Polymerase, only ever ratcheting forward from random shocks of chaos, insistent on replicating stupidity and blind hatred imperfectly into the future, each new act of violent collision an opportunity for beneficial mutations that can more effectively manipulate people’s trauma into heinous and cruel beliefs.
