Tbf the Forbes 30 Under 30 is a great predictor of future jail time.
Has somebody mapped that one out?
There are a bunch of blog posts on it if you search “30 under 30 jail”. I would link to one, but I didn’t like the first few I saw.

Yeah the rest is fine, but bragging about being featured in a magazine is kinda cringe.
I mean, I feel you, but it is a pretty big deal to the general public. It’s okay to be proud of being recognized.
How dare you. Media Luminary Griffin McElroy is a saint!

Ew
Elon actually hands these out to people who don’t want them because they were unpopular and an easy means of telling chuds apart from… uh, chads? There’s a good chance hers is a forced advertisement and not something she’s actually paying for.
Still means she’s on Twitter.
And you’re on Lemmy. Most people have their echo chamber of choice.
That’s like saying “everyone has a hobby” when you witness someone picking fights in public. Some hobbies and spaces are objectively worse than others.
That’s a really bad argument given one of those chambers is literally run by, and full of, nazis.
I mean this one is run mostly by people who agree with what is being said in the echo chamber too.
Though the architecture of the Fediverse does make it impossible for it to become as bad as the commercial ones.
Plenty of fascists on Lemmy. They’re just not well known billionaires.
Luckily it’s federated.
No, both sides are not the same. There is a way higher percentage on Twitter and it’s centrally controlled by one.
Both sides? Good grief. Not everything has to be a you vs them. And of course there is a higher number on Twitter. They have, what, 300 million active users? And Lemmy is probably .001% of that.
So are an insanely large amount of people.
I don’t think people on here realise that we are in an echo chamber ourselves and often times not very forgiving of people with differing opinions, where I would assume we should want to bring people to our point of view by being accepting and trying to educate on our beliefs.
So in this echo chamber of what 50K MAUs it can sometimes be hard to keep sight of the fact we are the smallest of minorities in this space and what we see is absolutely not a representation of what most people in the world care about.
I’ve never used Twitter but I’m not going to shit on other people for using it.
Were you on Reddit when they had loads of jailbait subs? Would you like to labelled as part of that same group just because you shared the same space?
Does it not seem reasonable that some people might use Twitter as a means to keep in the loop and not isolate from the crazies, Nazis, bigots or whatever. You can’t converse with the other side if you ain’t where they are at and if we all stay in our own echo chambers what are we really achieving other than a self-righteous circle jerk?
To be abundantly clear I am including myself in this too and not just calling you out. But this place is exhausting at times, I am the most cynical person I know and this place really gives me a run for my money at times. Even in the less serious stuff, like you can’t oppose Linux here you’ll be downvoted to shit for even having a different opinion. You have to use FOSS everything, and you should even be eating open source food 😂
Twitter is just shit though. Why are you even trying to defend it? Same as Facebook, I can’t see shit there without an account.
I’m not trying to defend, I was reasoning why people would still use it and trying to start a discussion.
Why did you focus on that aspect of my quite long comment and not try to engage with any of the points I made?
i had a frikkin point and now i’ve been sidetracked and seriously? twitter???
sorry i came back but wtf
?
Not just Linux, but you obviously have to use the correct distro of it, which obviously is…
correct
Are you shitting me right now, why would you click that!? Allow me to explain in this 50 part manifesto why I am so very smart and everyone else is beneath me…
That said, X is legit an Alt-Right Nazi bar. Even as we here are an Alt-Left one. I suppose it simply comes with the territory.:-|
Aww I wanted to hear your Linux opinions
It was going to be Arch.
tl;dr, but I still think displaying mild disgust at anyone who uses twitter today is the correct reaction
If Spez had given a Nazi salute and taken over the US government, I would have left.
That’s your prerogative, but I wonder if you see the danger of all people online splitting into their own groups?
The way I see it is you have a place just filled with say Nazis then they’re never going to learn or understand different perspectives and they’re going to become more radical.
So we have lemmy.ml. they don’t seem to learn
But how do you know that some people haven’t changed their views from coming up against counter arguments?
Nazis don’t understand different perspectives. It’s essentially the definition.
That said, I see value in posting for the peanut gallery (when I encounter Nazis here, I don’t go on Twitter).
But debating Nazis? Hoping to change their minds?
Nah, prefer to serve them knuckle sandwiches and go about my day.
This reads like you making the assumption that people are born Nazis and it’s not a learned behaviour.
Some people can hold their beliefs because of the environment they grew up in and many can actually change if people actually cared about educating people and not just feeling superior.
I want to stress this is only my opinion and I respect that you have yours too.
Actually, there are only a few hundred people on Twitter. The rest are bots.
Dude should just delete his account in a form of internet Harakiri at that point.
Isn’t it seppuku?
One is part of the other
How so?
One is the actual disembowelment one is the ritual IIRC
Yes I guess harakiri is the act of disemboweling yourself and seppuku is the ceremony surrounding it.
Not quite but I can see why people think so. Both words stem from the same Kanji pair: 腹切. Abdomen cut.
But one is read natively (harakiri) with an informal and colloquial feel to it and the other uses borrowed Chinese readings (seppuku) that makes it sound more formal/ritualistic to be used in formal settings. But they mean the same thing and both refer to the ritual.
A similar example is Japan’s own name: 日本. It’s usually read as “nihon” but has a special, formal reading of “nippon”.

I just want a tantō that moans as I commit seppuku.
I named one of our dumber work projects ‘project seppeku’ once. Boss was not amused when someone told him what it meant, but it went undiscovered for longer than I would have imagined, which simultaneosly made me happy and hurt my feelings.
Harikari = seppuku. They’re even written with the same kanji characters.
Oh, and harikari usually has a helper.
Oh, and harikari usually has a helper.
Other way around. Seppuku is the whole ritual, which includes the helper. But if you just gut yourself out in the woods with no ceremony, it’s harikiri
it’s harikiri
eh, only if it comes from the harikiri region of france tho.
otherwise it’s just sparkling disembowelment.
To really put this to rest:
Harakiri and Seppuku both literally mean abdomen/stomach cutting. Those who know some Japanese may recognize hara from the common phrase hara hetta which means you are hungry (literally, your stomach is decreasing in size or diminishing). Kiri means cut.
腹: hara 切: kiri
Seppuku simply reverses those kanji: 切腹
Why are they pronounced differently? Harakiri is a native Japanese word, using more traditional Japanese pronunciation Seppuku is a borrowing of middle Chinese roots: setsu from Middle Chinese tset meaning to cut, and fuku from Middle Chinese pjuwk, related to modern Mandarin fūk, referring to your abdomen.
So, setsufuku was shortened to seppuku where the Ps represent a stop and skipping of part of the word.

He will just tell her to make him a sandwich and the current Twitter audience will love him for that.
Get the fuck off of xitter… it harms your credibility.
Between the post and some of the comments, I’m pretty sure we’re on the worst time.
At least, the worst surviving timeline. I’m sure plenty of “worse” timelines have existed that killed off the entirety of the planet.
This is just the worst of what’s left.
The one where we all die is the good timeline, we are going for the torture nexus timeline.
Fair point.
Every time I hear the name Brad, I think of Brad Majors from the Rocky Horry Picture Show.
“Hi, I’m Brad Majors!”
“Asshole”
Holy shit, a lot of weirdos mad in the comments.
Eh, people don’t like twitter. That’s not weird.
Now you know I was referring to the comments calling her a “space influencer” lol
No… Let 'em burn.
I want Brad so emotionally scarred that every time he goes to tweet some bullshit he has a depression inducing anxiety attack so overwhelming that he has to find the nearest corner to go cry in until exhaustion.

It’s the only way to be sure.
I’m hesitant. Should I crosspost on [email protected] or [email protected]?
Skip .world, it’s too centralized and Reddit-y
Open and moderate one somewhere else and I would.
You’re right. There are zero other instances already. Neat how you posted through magic ether.
Don’t take it this way. To my knowledge there is no other community name !confidently_incorrect outside the one from .world and I don’t want to moderate one community just so I can crosspost once every 4 months. If you or any other lemmings is willing to do the moderation part, I’m fine with crossposting there.
¿Por qué no los dos?
No hay razón.
Exactamente
Federate them all!
YES !! For the glory of the fediverse !
Yes
All. Day.
You see ladies, mansplaining is a portmanteau of the words man, and explaining. Meaning a man explaining something… Actually let me back up. A portmanteau is a blending of two words in both sound and meaning.
So mansplaining… /S

But all females have been deleted from nasa
I thought we were all female now, by law? :-P
“What have you done that’s so great other than be an arm chair Monday morning quarterback?”, asked the arm chair Monday morning quarterback
Arm chair Monday morning quarterback is giving him way too much. Arm chair Monday morning waterboy is more like it.
I actually know her from titkok YouTube and Instagram, she does know stuff from space! She is great to watch
From what now?
Titkok, it’s some social media from China 🇹🇼

Space, Elon Musk is telling me I can get a great deal on being what he calls an “interplanetary servant” and that my sacrifice will be significant for humans in space! He’s so smart, he surely has all our best interests in mind. Anyway, off I go into the shower!

Sounds like my kinda place!
Alexandra Doten is a science communicator and astronomy content creator who rose to fame on TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic. Doten, a Vanderbilt graduate, interned at NASA for two summers and worked as a communications specialist after graduation. She later transitioned to the U.S. Space Force. Doten is known for her storytelling, which she says has inspired people to pursue careers in astronomy and space, and to invest in astrophotography equipment.
Not to give credit to Twitter verified assholes, but comms specialist is not a specific astronomy or aerospace field.
A former space communications specialist with NASA and later, the U.S. Space Force, today, I am an independent consultant to space organizations around the world. I write and develop brand strategies, educational presentations, speeches, and social media content.
And I harbor some pretty strong opinions about NASA’s public and internal administration for the past 30 years.
Two preventable shuttle disasters and a hacksaw outsourced attempt to return to the moon are not what I would consider quality projects. Modern NASA is the epitome of wasted talent.
