They’re generally absurdist, non sequitur, tongue in cheek, or a 180 perspective flip, if that helps

I think the axe factors in here too. I would guess those are farmed ducks and the axe is what the farmer used to dispatch them. So the ducks killed him to save themselves (or as vengeance. Or both.)
I loved the far side when I was a kid, but seeing these again now and I don’t remember them being this absurdist. I mean, I still love it though
I think kids are much more open to absurdity than adults are.
