Lol nothing says we are afraid of the working class like banning subreddits on suppressed news they don’t want us to see. I came here bc I got a warning on my account for liking a comment that said “Luigi”. My alt account got banned for sharing the DOGE email list that is public info. Fuck Reddit. I’m done.
I’m so happy to move on from that shithole. It’s a massive psyop at this point.
It is afraid
Good. Welcome to the new home. It feels like Reddit 2009.
Lemmy has been my #1 discovery of 2025
Same. And I have reddit and their nonsense ban hammer to thank for it.
Me too.
Somehow the complexity of using Lemmy compared to other social media sites and the decentralized nature of it has really gotten rid of the trollfarms and bot spam to a pretty good extent. I realize now that Reddit has such an insane amount of bad-faith actors that cause the site to be so toxic, same with all other mainstream social media.
I saw someone in a reddit thread about Lemmy earlier complaining that it wasn’t “user friendly” enough because someone posted an infograph on how the Fediverse works. Even though all the infograph was explaining was that you log into one instance and can freely interact with the rest from there…
I’ve always thought the internet should be more decentralized and being able to log in without seeing tons of bots, reposts and propaganda is literally the best aspect of Lemmy for me. This feels like what social media was meant to be. I wish there was an easier way to get people to understand that.
We definitely have our own bots and spam problems. Instance admins work diligently to keep the situation under control, and so far, they’ve been pretty successful. I’ve seen a few waves of it in my almost 2 years here.
I don’t think there’s a way to make the problem go away completely, but I think this model has proven more resilient so far. I believe in it.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels like this, like things here actually make sense. Sometimes I browse Reddit and I’m just like “when did you people start thinking like this?”. So bootlicky lol
I came here with the API changes, but I knew there would be future waves. It’s so nice. I believe in Lemmy and the promise of federated media to help technology work for humans.
I first joined reddit in 2011 and Lemmy definitely reminds me of early reddit. Except back then I probably lurked for about a year before I even made my first comment or post. I joined Lemmy about a month ago and I’m slowly starting to participate already.
Nothing much better here.
Today they canceled me one comment cause of a “Fuck Putin”, while arguing with a Russian troll.
Really thin skin. (on [email protected]).
Well, ‘.ml’ doesn’t exactly stand for “Mildly Liberal.”
But unlike Reddit, you can block the entire .ml instance if you’d like.
In fact, if you don’t get along with .ml, do yourself a favor & block the Hexbear instance if your home instance hasn’t already.
Well, no, it’s the TLD for Mali
Also are hexbear still around? I don’t think I’ve seen them since the domain issue. Not sure of feddit.uk have defederated, I’ve been banned or they just don’t exist any more.
I thought it was Milf Lovers…
I think it stands for mindlessly Lenninist.
i did block one conservative instance, dont need to see it on reddit all the time, certain not here, because its just them whining all the time. and i also blocked people who copy verbatim the false equivalency statements(of left and right) from reddit
It’s not perfect but the advantage here is you can choose whose administration you want to be subject to. Avoid the tankie instances and you’ll usually be OK. Lemmy.ml is particularly pernicious since it’s run by the developers and sort of masquerades as a general purpose instance–but it is hostile to any who don’t support their extremist ideology.
I say fuck Putin all the time and haven’t had any issues since I left that place.
Initially I thought it was a Russian troll, but probably they’re like my still communist friends. Russia bad (or may even not), but USA anyway worse. People without hope.
Yeah I think it’s generally genuine… just people who are stuck in a cult mindset.
Infinitely better here.
On Reddit they ban you, you’re done, you can’t use the site anymore.
Here some shitty tankies ban you, nothing changes, you can still access and use the thousands of other communities on other instances.
for a normal user its finished, if your an OF/advertise, they use paid services to evade ban partially. reddit is getting more sophisticated in detecting many methods outside the usual ones to evade bans. if you heard of anti-detection browsers(which create instances of browsers) and you can spoof your browser/device id , and they also proxies and new devices. i heard they make all that money back and more even if they spent money for services.
Nothing much better here.
I’m sorry that you, who are a user of mine on feddit.it, make these unfounded statements.
Today they canceled me one comment cause of a “Fuck Putin”, while arguing with a Russian troll.
In here, each instance and each community are autonomous and therefore the sensibilities of moderators and administrators can also be different.
The most important thing is to read the rules of the community and those of the instance that hosts you. But if you believe you have been unfairly banned, you can contact the moderator presenting your arguments without victimism and without rancor.
I mean, you probably understand that being a new user and already getting banned for small arbitrary stuff gives a “Reddit vibe”.
I must be honest, I haven’t read the rules yet cause I believe I can act like a civil person. A rule that states “do no promote hate”, can be streched to any ban if you want and that’s what Reddit or people in lemmy.ml are doing imo.
Anyway, it wasn’t such a big problem. I like Lemmy and thank you for the effort to make this place working.
Got banned today because I don’t think socialism would work in 2025 🤷.
I understand people can “Think different”, but a cirkle jerk of US socialists in 2025 sounds like a strabic unicorn with three legs and two horns.
Got banned today because I don’t think socialism would work in 2025 🤷
If you go to a UFO believer group and say we have no evidence of UFOs, then it is normal that you will be banned…
Well, you have a point there.
Welcome!
Here are cute [email protected] to improve your mood before you wander thought the lemmyverse.I’m subbed there, but it never shows up on my feed for some reason.
Weird it can be a federation issue since it’s from your home instance. Maybe you are subbed to others community that are active to another level of magnitude, so your feed on active never shows at the top this smaller community.
We have moderators here too. Significantly more adequate, I would even say nice, but still. And they delete messages from time to time and even ban people. So keep being vigilant.
Yes but those moderators are more or less as sensitive and very few of them get power tripping.
Nope. Just because you change the app doesn’t mean all that shitty and toxic human behaviour goes away.
There are tons of power tripping mods and admins on Lemmy.
True, but at least Lemmy let’s you view what the removed message was.
And they have to document the reason for bans that’s how certain Lemmy.world mods got caught acting in bad faith.
Also, they can’t ban you fed inverse wide.
So people who get banned on main Lemmy.world sub’s just continue discussions on other sub’s without being harassed by neo lib clown mods.
The difference is here you can check the mod log to see what actions have been taken and what reason was given for it, and power tripping admins can’t reach beyond their instance.
Yep, users and communities can shift away to a new instance if they want. While the fact that there might be 3+ communities on different instances all covering the same topic is a weak point, it’s also a strength in this regard, so it kind of evens out. And if you really want to, you can make your own instance.
While the fact that there might be 3+ communities on different instances all covering the same topic is a weak point,
I feel like there has to be a solution to that though. Some way to seamlessly consolidate subs for the front end.
I hope not.
Consolidating them is not a good outcome. We want them to be separated because they’re seperate for a reason.
Imagine 3 people baked a delicious bowl of beans, but 1 tastes like arse to you. Would you want all 3 bowls poured into one and ruin the taste of the 2 good bowls?
You don’t consume one bean at a time though. The existence of a lazy or boring post doesn’t ruin the good posts next to it. You can’t scroll through the beans from the crappy batch to only eat the good ones.
Besides, that’s still a solvable problem. I’m talking about a front-end solution, something that could be customized. Like a multi-reddit on reddit, but easily shareable like a starter pack on Bluesky. And if the multi-pack isn’t to your liking, you just edit it for yourself.
On reddit side, they are hiding more and more the reason why they are banning, and are only giving vague reason why this or that acct is getting flagged. th
I attempted to post an original comic on Lemmy to what is basically the only comic strip sub. It was probably the only comic that had been posted that week that wasn’t on reddit first. It got removed for profanity. The profanity in question? “Balls”.
I posted it to reddit after that, and it hit the front page of r/all. Not to toot my own horn, but that’s some good fucking original content that the comic strip sub on Lemmy could have used.
That does suck, it’s kinda sad that the most popular Comic-oriented community is that uptight about profanity.
Although, if that happens again I suggest trying on a different community, even if it’s not fully comic-oriented or if it’s smaller (c/[email protected] for example, it’s mostly inactive but it’s not uncommon at all for posts from near-dead communities to gain traction anyway).
Reddit is compromised.
I’m done as well. Fuck them.
Reddit has been compromised for a while now. 2016 opened them up. The API fiasco blew the door down. r/place exposed it and exploited Reddit for what it is. And we’re now seeing the new course of direction continue.
How did r/place expose anything?
Ok. Thanks.
Doesnt that kinda go against the whole point of r/place? Kinda fuckin stupid
Man the censorship is just vile too. It’s not like “Oh this incites violence” it’s “anything and everything that we and our shareholders don’t agree on is gone”.
Worst part is if any other countries went after them then they would just restrict it to US news.
Classic capitalist gotcha. Turns out that prioritizing shareholders (a 3rd party leech entity unrelated to the operations or customers) is always going to lead to censorship. Like the generic “shareholder” needs stable status quo to figure out how to exploit the poors in most efficient way and violent revolt doesn’t guarantee a higher than inflation result. Modern capitalism in America is straight up a mental disorder similar to hoarding. You don’t need the money nor the stock but you’re willing to fuck over literally thousands of people for a minor gain. It should be studied … but studying this doesn’t help the bottom line so fuck any progress it’s death and destruction for %% daily return. Fuck all this
Hey they got me long ago but permanently banned IP address maybe? Tried new numbers, new emails, and glad after the last few days
Lol same. I’m finally starting to realize it wasn’t a me thing. I’ve really disliked the general flow of reddit for a while but it’s just such an easy thing to open up and scroll through. Didn’t know alternatives like this existed
they also looked for same device, browser fingerprinting, behaviour pattern, reddits banning filters is the most aggressive of any social media, and site.
They are Streisand effecting the information though because the more they censor, the more people will talk about it. There’s already been a news article published by The Verge. It’s going to backfire so badly lmao.
Seeing that non-right sided medias are picking this up is good. Hopefully it builds more traction and if they can even say something as simple as “Lemmy is an alternative” we can see healthy growth. I know r/conservative is probably loving it but in the last month I’ve seen them advocate for more violence than any other subreddits. Yet they remain free and open. Gotta love how contradicting reddit has become since the blackout.
not contradicting at all if you consider them as part of the putin/musk propaganda apparatus
putins trolls control the sub, and the mods. not an accident why they are constantly on the front page all the time. and then theres the subs that “pretend to be both sides”
Reddit is compromised.
Elders of Lemmy:
Elon is haunting Reddit
If only lemmy posts showed up on search engines, reddit would be finished.
Some posts do show up on google but very few
Appeal to duck duck go?
There’s also slamming Reddit with more Lemmy talk. Maybe seed the standard Lemmy apps as Reddit apps and see what shakes out.
Make advertisers into bad words “hellofresh the rich” " squarespace the ceos"
I fucking love this and I’m stealing it
This is, excuse me, fucking brilliant
Reminds me of how RTGame censors the word ‘fuck’ with the word ‘Youtube’ on videos posted to Youtube
You’re youtubing kidding me.
Mark Zuckerberg needs to be facebooked
they already banned “Luigi” so good luck discussing Nintendo games.
I saw someone say Lewie G. as a substitute
Harkens me back to ol’ GameFAQs days when my friend tried to get around spoiler rules by making an HeiressDyes alt… Fight the system!!
I think you mean “Nintendo the CEOs”
I just tried this out after wiping all my comments, let’s see if I get a ban
I’d like to take this opportunity to point out that the RDDT stock price has dropped 40% in the last month, and it’s not surprising. That site is a sinking ship.
And insiders dumped $59m shares in late January. Shocked, I tell you!
It’s the way of business these days. They got their money. The ship can sink now. The users suffer.
The stock is so comically overpriced. Over 100 p/e. Nobody at Reddit is crying because it can’t stay inflated forever. They’re likely already all out.
Good. The dildo of consequence is rarely lubed
It’s an executive sell off, they’ve got their money so they’re happy. Now they need to make bank for the company for the next fiscal report in order to sell more. Watch this space. Reddit enshitification isnt over.
Let us hope so.
I suspect that would be from the executive sell off and nothing more . They’ve been doing everything they could to fatten their personal wallets so I’m not surprised a c-suite selloff has resulted in devaluation
Banned 3 years ago
never heard of r/supressednews, what kind of environment was it?
It hurt daddy’s feelz
Have you all read 1984? First they will make thing illegal. Then they will hide away what is illegal. After that someone will learn something was illegal. Once they are found out, that illegal thing will be completely changed so there is no evidence anything was illegal to begin with.
I would not be shocked if try to scrub these bans so users can’t see if a community was banned.
