Lol nothing says we are afraid of the working class like banning subreddits on suppressed news they don’t want us to see. I came here bc I got a warning on my account for liking a comment that said “Luigi”. My alt account got banned for sharing the DOGE email list that is public info. Fuck Reddit. I’m done.

Somehow the complexity of using Lemmy compared to other social media sites and the decentralized nature of it has really gotten rid of the trollfarms and bot spam to a pretty good extent. I realize now that Reddit has such an insane amount of bad-faith actors that cause the site to be so toxic, same with all other mainstream social media.

I saw someone in a reddit thread about Lemmy earlier complaining that it wasn’t “user friendly” enough because someone posted an infograph on how the Fediverse works. Even though all the infograph was explaining was that you log into one instance and can freely interact with the rest from there…

I’ve always thought the internet should be more decentralized and being able to log in without seeing tons of bots, reposts and propaganda is literally the best aspect of Lemmy for me. This feels like what social media was meant to be. I wish there was an easier way to get people to understand that.

We definitely have our own bots and spam problems. Instance admins work diligently to keep the situation under control, and so far, they’ve been pretty successful. I’ve seen a few waves of it in my almost 2 years here.

I don’t think there’s a way to make the problem go away completely, but I think this model has proven more resilient so far. I believe in it.

Well, ‘.ml’ doesn’t exactly stand for “Mildly Liberal.”

But unlike Reddit, you can block the entire .ml instance if you’d like.

In fact, if you don’t get along with .ml, do yourself a favor & block the Hexbear instance if your home instance hasn’t already.

It’s not perfect but the advantage here is you can choose whose administration you want to be subject to. Avoid the tankie instances and you’ll usually be OK. Lemmy.ml is particularly pernicious since it’s run by the developers and sort of masquerades as a general purpose instance–but it is hostile to any who don’t support their extremist ideology.

I say fuck Putin all the time and haven’t had any issues since I left that place.

      Infinitely better here.

On Reddit they ban you, you’re done, you can’t use the site anymore.

Here some shitty tankies ban you, nothing changes, you can still access and use the thousands of other communities on other instances.

for a normal user its finished, if your an OF/advertise, they use paid services to evade ban partially. reddit is getting more sophisticated in detecting many methods outside the usual ones to evade bans. if you heard of anti-detection browsers(which create instances of browsers) and you can spoof your browser/device id , and they also proxies and new devices. i heard they make all that money back and more even if they spent money for services.

      Nothing much better here.

I’m sorry that you, who are a user of mine on feddit.it, make these unfounded statements.

Today they canceled me one comment cause of a “Fuck Putin”, while arguing with a Russian troll.

In here, each instance and each community are autonomous and therefore the sensibilities of moderators and administrators can also be different.

The most important thing is to read the rules of the community and those of the instance that hosts you. But if you believe you have been unfairly banned, you can contact the moderator presenting your arguments without victimism and without rancor.

I mean, you probably understand that being a new user and already getting banned for small arbitrary stuff gives a “Reddit vibe”.

I must be honest, I haven’t read the rules yet cause I believe I can act like a civil person. A rule that states “do no promote hate”, can be streched to any ban if you want and that’s what Reddit or people in lemmy.ml are doing imo.

Anyway, it wasn’t such a big problem. I like Lemmy and thank you for the effort to make this place working.

And they have to document the reason for bans that’s how certain Lemmy.world mods got caught acting in bad faith.

Also, they can’t ban you fed inverse wide.

So people who get banned on main Lemmy.world sub’s just continue discussions on other sub’s without being harassed by neo lib clown mods.

Yep, users and communities can shift away to a new instance if they want. While the fact that there might be 3+ communities on different instances all covering the same topic is a weak point, it’s also a strength in this regard, so it kind of evens out. And if you really want to, you can make your own instance.

            I hope not.

Consolidating them is not a good outcome. We want them to be separated because they’re seperate for a reason.

Imagine 3 people baked a delicious bowl of beans, but 1 tastes like arse to you. Would you want all 3 bowls poured into one and ruin the taste of the 2 good bowls?

You don’t consume one bean at a time though. The existence of a lazy or boring post doesn’t ruin the good posts next to it. You can’t scroll through the beans from the crappy batch to only eat the good ones.

Besides, that’s still a solvable problem. I’m talking about a front-end solution, something that could be customized. Like a multi-reddit on reddit, but easily shareable like a starter pack on Bluesky. And if the multi-pack isn’t to your liking, you just edit it for yourself.

I attempted to post an original comic on Lemmy to what is basically the only comic strip sub. It was probably the only comic that had been posted that week that wasn’t on reddit first. It got removed for profanity. The profanity in question? “Balls”.

I posted it to reddit after that, and it hit the front page of r/all. Not to toot my own horn, but that’s some good fucking original content that the comic strip sub on Lemmy could have used.

That does suck, it’s kinda sad that the most popular Comic-oriented community is that uptight about profanity.

Although, if that happens again I suggest trying on a different community, even if it’s not fully comic-oriented or if it’s smaller (c/[email protected] for example, it’s mostly inactive but it’s not uncommon at all for posts from near-dead communities to gain traction anyway).

Man the censorship is just vile too. It’s not like “Oh this incites violence” it’s “anything and everything that we and our shareholders don’t agree on is gone”.

Worst part is if any other countries went after them then they would just restrict it to US news.

Classic capitalist gotcha. Turns out that prioritizing shareholders (a 3rd party leech entity unrelated to the operations or customers) is always going to lead to censorship. Like the generic “shareholder” needs stable status quo to figure out how to exploit the poors in most efficient way and violent revolt doesn’t guarantee a higher than inflation result. Modern capitalism in America is straight up a mental disorder similar to hoarding. You don’t need the money nor the stock but you’re willing to fuck over literally thousands of people for a minor gain. It should be studied … but studying this doesn’t help the bottom line so fuck any progress it’s death and destruction for %% daily return. Fuck all this

Seeing that non-right sided medias are picking this up is good. Hopefully it builds more traction and if they can even say something as simple as “Lemmy is an alternative” we can see healthy growth. I know r/conservative is probably loving it but in the last month I’ve seen them advocate for more violence than any other subreddits. Yet they remain free and open. Have you all read 1984? First they will make thing illegal. Then they will hide away what is illegal. After that someone will learn something was illegal. Once they are found out, that illegal thing will be completely changed so there is no evidence anything was illegal to begin with.

I would not be shocked if try to scrub these bans so users can’t see if a community was banned.
