Will Scharf, a White House official, claimed the new car tariffs would result in more than $100bn in annual revenue to the US

I dont understand how this is supposed to generate ‘revenue for the US’. The money will come from their own citizens, so its basically a tax increase. Are taxes considered ‘revenue for the country’? Its not like the money comes frot outside the US.

Technically yes, this is tax revenue for the government. Which is weird, I thought Republicans wanted to lower taxes…

No no, they wanted to cut taxes for the wealthy. They could not care less about the rest.

They’re still peddling that other countries pay tariffs, which becomes “US revenue”, and Americans will get a big tax break because importers pay our taxes now.

      Yep.

I heard that Canadians are paying for billboards saying “tariffs are taxes on your groceries” in Republican states. It’s funny as hell, but it won’t work—people are either too uneducated to understand how higher import costs lead to higher downstream costs, or they’re too MAGA to even consider it.

I think the saddest part is that if BYD could be imported into America, it’d probably still be cheaper with the 20% tariff.

sedans no, and it’s a goddamned shame because fuel efficient sedans still have a place. manuf won’t make them because trucks (and not even single cab small trucks) and suvs make more money.

I know Toyota is Japanese, but they have a Kentucky, USA factory where they manufacture Camry and Lexus ES 350 and 300h.

What’s ironic is that more foreign owned brands have production plants in the US than US brands at this point. Nissan Toyota and Honda all have US plants. GM Ford and Chrysler all have plants primarily in Canada and Mexico.

All of those companies have plants both in the US & Canada (and I’m sure Mexico too, I’m just less familiar). As someone who lives in Southwestern Ontario, we have a lot of car brands, both foreign and domestic, plus the supply chains for the parts that go into those cars.

Saying the big 3 are “primarily in Canada and Mexico” is just untrue, especially comparing it to Japanese brands. They’re all heavily relying on CUSMA.

So with just a little bit of research: You’re right. However, 3 of Fords most popular models are in fact produced in Canada. This begs the question though: do these tariffs apply to production or simply “company country of origin?”

And people voted for this Orange Mussolini, so I truly hope everyone who voted is feeling the terror around these tariffs, and I hope you make better decisions in the future because nobody voted for fascism, but your vote for GOP did just that!! And now WE ALL have to suffer! Fucking troglodytes!!!

And then you have idiots like this:

I guaran-fucking-tee this dumb bitch has absolutely zero clue what she’s actually driving (hint: it’s a Lexus LX470, aka TOYOTA LAND CRUISER).

And the “Don’t Tread On Me” is just so on-the-nose.

Yep. The entire Land Cruiser family (which includes the LX, GX, Prado, and even the 4Runner) is only built in Japan. It’s one of the most Japanese vehicle families of all Japanese vehicles.
