Strikes me as a way to low key control indie bookings. 100% guarantee WWE has first and last say in who holds those belts, and if I’m an indie booker, I’d be dumb to not have an officially sanctioned WWE title defense as the main event of my show. Or at least, that’s the narrative WWE will push.
Yeah, it’s basically a development version of the NWA Championship, the NWA Committee had to approve anybody that would hold the belt or the territory did flip-flop shows where one night the local guy won then the Champ got it back the next night, with the knowledge the NWA wouldn’t recognize those as title reigns.
