I’m not a big Nintendo fan, because of their pricing and lawsuits, but I’m siding with them on this one.

If you can’t afford a Switch 2, don’t buy one.

This is coming from someone who really couldn’t afford one right now. We wait until we can or the price goes down (oh wait. Nintendo doesn’t do that )

      Or, and hear me out…

If you’re working on your credit score… Go for it!

I was able to get an Xbox Series X and made on-time monthly payments for it over 2 years. It opened a new line of credit and regular automatic payments toward it did wonders for my credit score.

I think it very tone deaf with regards to how their trying to up the prices of games, which I think is BS, and increasing the price of accessories, and locking things behind subscriptions.

Very much so a Blizzard, “don’t you have phones?” Type of situation.

Company says that if you can’t afford their expensive product, you should buy one of their cheaper ones. Well yeah… Did anyone expect something else here? They aren’t going to give you a special deal, nor are they going to advise you to buy elsewhere. This is so pointless.

They aren’t going to give you a special deal

      1. The Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle is a good deal.
      2. If you’re working on your credit score and it’s time to open a new line of credit, get a credit card with a $200 welcome reward that gives you $200 back if you spend $500 in the first three months. Perfect for the Switch 2 with other items for launch. Just sayin’.

Well I’m making myself a deal, starting today, no more gas station trips for soda. If I can make it the month and start riding my bike again, I’m getting a steam deck.

And will emulate the fuck out of switch games. Kiddo already has a hacked switch.

Yeah, Microsoft had a similar stance around the Xbox One timeframe! It worked out great for them.

Just don’t talk about it, Nintendo, that’s a better PR strategy.

Not to excuse Nintendo, but I think people need to stop being such big consumers. Having new phones and new consoles on release is completely unnecessary; I bet most gamers have bought games that they haven’t even played yet, let alone finished, and are already anxious for a system that hasn’t even been released.

I think we all can be more patient and frugal, and stop following trends and releases so closely.

I appreciate this and agree 100%, but there are a LOT of factors besides just having the thing that make it harder than “just stop consuming”.

If you are someone who typically only plays games with friends, it can very much be a case of “Buy or miss out”. I have a group of friends who will probably buy GTA VI and play hundreds of hours of multiplayer together. I know I will not be rewarding Rockstar for their inevitably shitty choices and behaviour with this game (Fuck them for what they did with GTA VI, greedy assholes), and I know this means just…not playing with my friends. I’m okay with that as a thirty something adult, but for others they won’t be able to “just not”.

Then you have all the FOMO stuff - I refused to buy Diablo 4 on launch in protest of prices and Blizzard, etc. But it was VERY hard for me, being aware I was missing out on an exper

Limited time items, exclusive events, etc, can all play a factor for those who’s brains are tickled in just the right way.

I wish it were simply a case of patience and frugality.

You’re right. I didn’t consider that it’s easier to play with other people when adopting early. I didn’t consider this.

Did you mean V? And by that I mean: do you mean Online?

V is still a great single player experience for a reasonable price. Online is considered separate and always was, and I can completely agree with what they did to that. I can also agree that not giving us dlc for V in favor of Online updates was crap, too. But R* still gave us a game worth the money that’s still playable right now

If there’s been some huge update with VI that I missed then, well, shit. I think I saw the price went up $10 on some retailers site, but idk if I trust that kind of shit

Checks backlog. Yup, currently at 427 titles unplayed. Holy cow, didn’t think it was that bad! And I haven’t even added my free games from EGS.

I’d love this comment to be a sticky post on every new thing announcement. Trouble with us humans is we like to really get into a thing that’s completely out of our control, and then we get very upset when it goes in a direction we don’t like. Being able to take a step back and say “ah well, guess that’s not for me anymore” is much better for your own mental health than getting angry at consumerism.

I don’t consider myself an early adopter, heck I never am, the only time I recall is getting a New Nintendo 3DS Black Friday edition even before the BF (the thing arrived first in Mexico) just because it was a special edition and the only way to get that model here officially… And for a good price even!

The only reason I am tempted to get a Switch 2 is because it probably means it will get exploited easier/earlier than the next batches.

Although we still number consoles, in a lot of ways we did get our “tiered” console structure.

Take most people’s daily plays, and I’d say about 90% of them or more have an edition available on the prior gen console. And it makes sense when so many of those games have relatively basic graphics - and when game engines have gotten better at scalability.

So, those consoles are neatly serving as a low budget option for a lot of gamers that can’t follow all the latest and most expensive games. Yes, some newer releases will be fully excluded; but even then, getting a brand new or used Switch or PS4 can introduce someone to a huge number of games if they haven’t been exploring options.

Imho the price is justified. By raw numbers it’s a beefier steam deck for + $30.

Oh, and you get a dock that increases its power.

By raw numbers I have around 500 games on steam and there’s a huge sale every 3-4 months. Deck is also a pretty capable computer and runs Linux. Deck can run games from many platforms, not just steam.

But how will we play Mario Kart World? Why not release it on Switch 1? Oh that’s right, they want people to buy the new gaming system. Screw others who can’t afford it. It’s just a couple hundred extra bucks. Just put that extra money aside for two months and you will have your Switch 2.
