I didn’t expect Trump to attack the military.

If he wants troops in the streets he has to follow the chain of command; if the top brass decide it’s an illegal order they won’t do anything.

The thing is that it took a powerful coalition of countries to actively wage war against him for years for that to happen. I am not seeing anything similar happening here.

This is all on Americans themselves.

Hey, we’re working on creating that broad coalition right now! Don’t worry, invading Canada, Mexico, Panama, Greenland, Disneyland and MacDonald’s Island should help motivate the world! If that doesn’t do it, we have plans to bomb China, Australia, Costa Rica, Maine, Disney World, Loompaland, and Imagination Land.

I think politics need to be interesting for people to vote. If the expected outcome is that everything only worsens a bit, you’ll never get people to vote for you. So by leaning right, she basically tried to appease the conservatives, but made progressives lose interest. I don’t think that anyone (or a substancial number) on the left tried to “own” her.

Hopefully there will be next elections, and hopefully there will be a party worthy of voting for it.

I’ll be voting for the most progressive viable candidate. If that’s kamala or AOC or Gavin newsom, yeah we might lose, but that’s not going to stop me from vocally supporting them over some joker like Jill Stein who has literally zero chance and knows it.

Radical left wing politicians are not electable outside of small college towns. Democrats, and Americans more generally are not radically left wing. Calling for the death of America, or Israel, or any country really, is not a position that will win you a general election in this country.

The hard truth is that fascists cannot be redeemed or convinced. He was quite popular among a good portion of the German population long after the war. Even into the 1950s a large portion of the population still didn’t accept Germany’s responsibility for the war. The truth is a lot of the generation that was most affected by the Nazi propaganda, the age bracket that really voted Hitler into power? Most of them never lost those Nazi ideals and kept them right until they died of old age. There’s a reason so many works of fiction in the second half of the 20th century feature groups of old Nazis working one evil scheme or another.

Yah I am getting fucking SICK of all these “owning the right” and “leopards are eating their faces” memes.

      THE CONSERVATIVE ORCS ARE CHEERING.

This “engagement culture” has taught us to keep clicking on things that make us feel good, distancing us from the truth and reality.

I swear the left has almost an equally distorted picture of the real world as the right, at least the ones who spend all their days scrolling their curated feeds. We are NOT winning, we are NOT sitting here smug while the conservatives whither into the background, they are fucking in control of the world’s wealthiest, most powerful country and they are celebrating every day. The number of worried neolibs out there who lost their 401K’s or the like and are booing Republicans at town halls are a minority.

I swear this is why we lost this last election. Too many people checked out, didn’t care, figured there was no way people would vote in such an obvious crook… AND YOU NEVER CHECKED WHAT THE OTHER SIDE WAS SEEING AND DOING.

Fucking 55% of eligible voters showed up. And now we’re gonna lose it all because too many of you thought yourselves the main characters who didn’t need to make a choice.

Related: a lot of our current problems have been festering for the last century+ since we didn’t finish the job after the civil war. If instead of helping the landowners who incited the rebellion rebuild plantations without slaves and subsidizing their production, if we ignored the financial and diplomatic repercussions and just hung the bastards and took their assets, it would have served a much stronger precedent and then maybe we wouldn’t have had organizations like Daughters of the Confederacy re-writing our textbooks for the last hundred fucking years. I don’t see that at all. The only MAGA that I’m still connected to on Facebook hasn’t posted anything about the Abrego Garcia situation since it happened. He’s literally doing the Homer thing, and the shrubs are his other posts about the weather and stuff. He went from posting about Trump all the time to kinda pretending like he doesn’t exist.

Meanwhile, the MAGAts around my parents’ house in the middle of rural Indiana have taken down all of their Trump flags. They were already at a low ebb before the election; now there are only two houses with Trump signs up on my route to their house, and I’m pretty sure one of them is owned by an old woman who can’t walk.

This just isn’t happening on the ground. Only on Fox, as far as I can tell.

They highlight every act of vandalism or protest like they’re some sort of oppressed minority so that makes them afraid to speak up, or they straight up know their viewpoints are shameful. Either way I think only the margins are changing as the truth never penetrates the core of the believers.
