The reference to a “mom” in 1990 was meant to evoke a relatable persona — someone readers could easily picture navigating a closed ecosystem in 1990. Later in the post, we also mention how “your mom” could very well be an empowered advocate for openness — emphasizing that anyone, regardless of their starting point, can embrace and champion digital progress.
