Today, Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) introduced articles of impeachment against Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, citing a sweeping abuse of power, flagrant violations of the Constitution, and acts of tyranny that undermine American democracy and threaten the rule of law.

“Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as President and represents a clear and present danger to our nation’s constitution and our democracy,” said Rep. Thanedar. “His unlawful actions have subverted the justice system, violated the separation of powers, and placed personal power and self-interest above public service. We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act.”

The resolution includes seven articles of impeachment outlining a range of constitutional violations.

It’ll be a new tradition, every year we impeach the man and every year it produces no real change.

It’ll show someone tried, I guess. Unfortunately, the time fascism could have been defeated from within the system is long passed.

Good for him. Unfortunately the Republicans are all vile, complicit lock-step party brownshirts, so nothing whatsoever will come of this.

If you want to just lay there and keep watching our country burn while doing nothing that’s your choice. I’ll keep doing what little I can to help those who are working on fighting this tyrant.

You haven’t gotten it yet, huh?

Congress is powerless. The Judicial is powerless.

This will do nothing but knock yourselves out, I’ve seen this show before. GOP-held Congress is gonna get anywhere with Impeachment, sure.

I mean it’s about all the Democrats in office can do but I’m sure you can find a better use of your time. Plant a tree, there’s one. Start a self-defense network for immigrants and queer folk in your area. I can go on…

Why not both? The amount of time and effort required for me to support a likely unsuccessful impeachment attempt is negligible, but it does make me feel just a smidge better.

imo, we have to fight on all fronts. While some may argue that it’s a waste of time, I believe the work for short term reform is still important. Even if the long-term goal is something more. While I hold a more revolutionary ideology, I’ve comrades who are doing what they can in the existing system.

Better to focus on building networks in your communities that can do good here and now, you know?

If someone has their boot on your neck and you’ve failed to throw them off twice, would you not try a third time?

It’s more like the two previous attempts to remove the boot have involved throwing dandelions at it. Somehow, I don’t think a third tossing of dandelions is going to make a difference. This isn’t saying to stop trying to get the boot off your neck, but there comes a point where you must acknowledge that your methods aren’t going to work and it is, in fact, wasted effort to keep trying without changing anything.

Therefore the legislature should roll over, abdicate their responsibility, and succumb to tyranny!

Good. Now everyone needs to call, email, or visit with their reps to get this passed - assuming they can force a vote. It will only take 4 republicans crossing the aisle in the house to impeach him yet again. Then we need to hound our Senators to get a conviction. That will be the hardest part because it’ll take about 20 republicans to join all the democrats and independents to convict him.

        He’s not getting removed.

I don’t get why people aren’t understanding what’s happening. They are setting a precedent that they never want used back against them and are setting it up so they don’t have to worry about it, and there is no real opposition party anyway. This is it, the turning point where control by the people and representation has been effectively taken away.

I don’t get why people like you jump to conclusions about shit all the time. It is POSSIBLE he can be removed in several ways… impeachment isn’t likely sure, but he isn’t a healthy person, he’s old, he has mental health decline, and people hate him and keep trying to kill him… anything can happen.

I’m not saying don’t try, I just think it’s naive to expect it to do anything and screams a population who hasn’t grown up seeing their nation taken over by authoritarians and fascism, something that happened many times in other places that Americans don’t think could possibly impact them here because “those people were brown and dumb.”

That average people still expect their “representatives” to fix things is the naive part.

Nobody is coming. If we want democracy we have to make it happen, as individuals, as people on the ground.

It’s a waste for a D to bring Impeachment charges. Unless Rs do it, it will never pass and will always seem politically motivated.

Of course it’s politically motivated, trump is a shit political leader.

He’s done exactly 2 things I agree with, kill the useless penny, and say he’ll pass a “congress can’t trade stocks” law.

What does it waste? Every Republican, moderate, and undecided gets to see who actually wants impeachment. No stepping around it we’ll know who could have ended this and voted to keep him. what can a Democrat do that isn’t going to look politically motivated? Defeatist arguments are exactly what trump needs to become emperor

Weird how they only did it today when a primary challenger announced they were running.

They could have done this anytime before today but waited until their seat was at stake.

Just pure coincidence that they drafted this up on the same day. Almost like they know people aren’t interested in a politician who doesn’t represent them.

Wanna take bets that the challenger loses and the impeachment goes nowhere, so nothing happens to this seat?
