If Christianity taught believe in yourself instead of an Invisible Friend, a lot fewer of them would worship Trump.
Yeah, Trump being invisible too just gets them all confused.
There was actually an early sect of Christians called the Gnostics. That was sort of their whole thing.
A core belief was that everyone was the child of God, and thus, was God.
They also believed that Jesus asked Judas to go to the Romans.
The early church wiped them out to the last, and we only know what we do thanks to some sparse records and modern archeology.
As in the gnostic gospels? As usual, the ideas that ended up having the most muscle behind them became the “truth”.
Pretty sure that they named themselves. So closer to propaganda.
Please tell me more about the word of Satan
More veggies and less fruit; too much sugar. Update: Sorry for the duplicate, lemmy client glitched.
More veggies and less fruit; too much sugar.
Thank you dark master!
I dunno, the Christians might be on to something. Definitely some people around who need to believe in themselves a bit less.
The kind of cognitive dissonance that tries to make believing in yourself evil is utterly without decency.
…“seem”…?
Christians -
Clearly I need more satan in my life.
Hail satan!
“Damn it to hell, I said believe in yourself! What is it with you religious people?”
Satan literally is rad as hell.
That’s not Satan, that’s the snake. Satan’s just an asshole who does God’s bidding testing and tempting people like he did with Job. And it’s not the same as the nake or lucifer.
The ‘snake’ was the one who told Eve that God was lying to them, and that they would not die if they ate the forbidden fruit. This one is the cool guy who’s the equivalent of Prometheus.
Lucifer isn’t even in the bible at all. It’s a Roman mythical explanation for Venus because it was something bright that appeared sometimes in the sky, and it somehow got conflated with the bad versions of the “morning star” mentioned in the bible later. Funny enough, Jesus is also referred as “morning star” too. Also the King of Babylon, I think. “Morning star” may be just a saying to describe a characteristic, not a character, like “you are a rising star”.Good point, lucifer is a word used in some translations of the bible though, this book Isaiah was originally written in Hebrew and the word was heilel, and this was translated to latin as lucifer. It was referring to a Babylonian king, not the devil, or the fallen angel, likely Nebuchadnezzar. Some translation use this or similar wording.
Lucifer is latin and means light bringer, lux means light, ferre means bringer.
The serpent was cursed to live as an animal on it’s belly. So not the same person as Nebuchadnezzar.
Different devils (from the ancient Greek word diabolos) also not the same person, or one person
“If you can’t believe in yourself, believe in me who believes in you!”
Fight the powa.
believe in the ball, and throw yourself!
Given that most Satanists just make fun of religion, how do you call people who’re really believing in Satan?
Christians
We really just make fun of Christianity. None of the Satanists I know have a problem with religion per se.
Lol, your comment reminded me of when I got to confirmation age and I was the only one in my class who chose to not get confirmated. The priest would come to me in class a few times to convince me to join in on Bible studies and I asked him several questions that pissed him off enough to leave me alone. One of them was: do you believe in Satan?
And he said no.
And I said: do you believe in Jesus?
And he said yes.
“How can you believe in one and not the other when they are part of the same religion?”
Only said in a 13 year old way of speaking so probably a lot more clunky. Anyway, I kept pushing him to admit that if he believes in the good he also must believe in the evil because they belong together and one without the other is just lying to yourself and making yourself vulnerable to evil - but again, in a 13 year old clunky way of saying it.
He got mad and never spoke a word to me again.
I still believe in this sentiment even though I’m not religious. I am painfully aware of the evil inside of me and how I must be observant and aware of how I affect the world and how the world affects me. If I turn a blind eye to evil, I will open myself up to it. That is how people end up in cults and I know I have a high chance of becoming one of those, so there’s a lot of talks in the mirror and reflections on my own behavior.
13 year old me was nowhere close to understanding the complexities of the conversation I was trying to have with the priest back then, I just wanted him to not be a hypocrite and admit that if he believes in God he also must believe in the devil even if he disagrees with his teachings. You cannot be good if you ignore evil.
That went deep, quickly. I absolutely agree we all have good and bad, black and white or whatever you call it tendencies inside. Whenever we ignore our dark part, it acts unseen, unchecked.
By accepting that we’re just human, just animals, we have desires, we can at least - I don’t really have good words for this - at least feel and take care in the harm we can’t or don’t want to avoid to do.
Yeah sorry about my armchair philosophizing on this lovely Sunday evening or morning depending on where in the world you are right now.
I think the most frustrating thing about attempting to live by this balanced philosophy is that nothing is ever balanced for long. As a perfectionist, this is probably gonna be the most challenging lesson in my life, personally, but at the same time, it does keep life interesting.
don’t ever believe you accomplished something. it was jesus who did it for you. unless you fail. then it’s 100% your own fault
privatize profits, socialize losses …
Jesus saves, Satan invests.
Thanks Satan. I needed that today.
