I think protesting is great but not on El capitan in Yosemite. That’s just plain white people behaviour. It’s not just a rock, it’s an incredibly sacred place that has a great significance in human history and it transcends religions
I’m a pantheist and I just personally find it super offensive which is why I bothered getting into it I guess. I know the demographic here doesn’t actually go outside or have a love for the mountains so I knew it would be a losing battle but damn man there’s just no fucking respect for nature anymore

If you’re coming from Reddit, 100%. Its also gotten better from when lemmy initially started popping off, there were many who were quick to personally attack others.

I don’t think anyone here is an extremist I think they’re all so pigeonholed in their respective flavors of progressiveness that they forget other people have slightly different views.
Maybe so. Views tend to become simpler out at the extremes, and I think we have a lot of young people here who are drawn to simple, direct views. I mean shit I’m drawn to simplicity as well, but once you’ve had to manage things out in the real world, the first thing you realize is how complicated they are.

Like a week ago my wife’s PC starts getting absolutely terrible wifi speed, like 1mbps when she normally gets 50 (terrible walls for wifi and the router cannot get closer sadly) so I go to investigate it
Turns out a recent update broke the drivers for her wifi adapter, of all things, resulting in some wacky ass behavior. This was not on a Linux installation, though…

I grew up in a conservative, right-wing, rural environment, and have moved slowly from being moderately right-wing in school, to a neoliberal in college, to a socdem, a socialist, and eventually marxist leninist after college. I am quite comfortable with where I’m at right now. I am willing to continue learning, and I have learned quite a lot over the years. I read a fair amount on all of my prior political convictions, and I don’t shy away from discussing everything I stand for.

I’m in-between. I’m caring enough to not agree with Conservatives and want a change to the status quo. I’m educated enough to know how the world actually works and that things can’t be free and other people won’t do stuff for free. Capitalism has its place, but needs to be highly regulated.

Ahh, you gotta love this line. It’s akin to a person here saying they’re unburdened by language because they only speak English, ‘the default’.
“Apolitical” people are not neutral or outside of politics, they preserve the status quo. Which, looking around the place, is not a good position. “Centrist” can mean wildly different things in different countries, but it’s essentially just conservatism (as in, conserving, avoiding strong changes in either direction) - the center in Nepal[1] [2] is wildly different to the center in the US because their status quo is different.
