Iran may close the Strait of Hormuz, while Yemen could shut the Bab al-Mandeb.

That would destabilize global energy markets in a hurry, and the west would go into economic tailspin as a result.

Iran produces 5% of global oil and there are a lot more oil producers in the region, which might end up getting involved. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iraw, Kuwait and Qatar come to mind. We did see Iran attacking Saudi oil production a few years ago, so this might happen again. Hopefully not, but still.

A major member of OPEC was just attacked. Had you not put those two pieces of information together?

The laziness of the average person continues to amaze me. You’ve chosen to ask and wait for the answer to a question which could have been answered by reading the article you’ve commented on. “Why” is the reason journalists pen these articles.

It would have taken you considerable less effort to read the article and you would have actually obtained some knowledge from a source.

You’re genuinely better off avoiding the internet entirely if your intent is to go about your life waiting on people to give you the answers to questions to topics you evidently do not care about.

Actually it’s a pretty deeplt embedded human quality to tell other people to act right, read the room, familiarize themselves with context, otherwise they’re gonna do it to thousands more unfortunate people. Pay it forward: tell people to shut up when they have nothing to say. It’s not really a big deal, man. There are different social rules when we are in an aggregation space, as in trying to help each other cut the wheat from the chaff informationally, and what you’re asking could just as easily be put into search. Since we’re on the computer.

tl;dr Lemmy is for being a hater

Upvoted out of spite. Please don’t ever say I want the approval of Lemmy users again. That’s just beyond the pale, man. I can’t think of anything more offensive than being called “spiritually Israeli”. 90% of the things people downvote on here are perfectly fine and it’s a puzzle to me to figure out what pissed people off. I think maybe they have really unhappy lives.

I just feel strongly that it is polite to volunteer the unwritten rules of social engagement to other people. I’m not some kind of internet law fetishist like these people. Your insult will never be forgiven…

Honestly, fuck link aggregators. If I wanted to read articles elsewhere I would’ve done so.

Not to mention that they are terrible for web longevity. Website gone? Most likely content gone as well.

I thought that the whole idea of Lemmy was to prevent content getting nuked if any of our subreddits are gone. Linking to articles without a decent summary added is actively anti-user in my opinion.

yeah why talk to actual people on a discussion forum made for just this when you can ask chatgpt instead?
