I’m vegan and I’m interested. I LOVE sushi, and a lot of the plant-based sushi is, quite frankly, shit (though there is some good stuff out there). If this makes vegan sushi more accessible, I’m in.

@RvTV95XBeo @notsosure vegan castle in Long Beach is not only the best vegan sushi I ever had, it’s the best sushi I have ever had… period. Vegan sushi doesn’t have to suck. In fact it can be the best sushi out there when it’s made with love and not as an afterthought.

          Adding it to my list!!

I 100% agree it doesn’t have to suck! I’m more concerned about places outside of LA where the only vegan sushi option on the menu is a cucumber roll. Something that works exactly like fish is going to open a lot of doors to getting onto menus at non-vegan sushi joints.

PS, if you haven’t been, since we’re exchanging tips, I’d highly recommend Kusaki in West LA! Best omakase outside of Japan.

This wouldn’t be salmon, it’s never been part of a fish. It’s salmon cells eventually cultivated into an edible shape.

Are you trying to be a cliche stereotype of a vegan in a joke?

I’m not vegan, I don’t eat meat and I very occasionally eat fish. I follow this community because veganism is something I value without being fully committed to it. The idea of eating something I like without the bitter ethical side-dish (in theory, nothing is perfect) is very interesting to me. And totally worth of the “vegan” label.

I misunderstood, I thought the article was about farmed salmon.

Though I personally did not go vegan for reasons of animal welfare, so whether meat comes from an animal or a vat has little to do with whether I’d choose to eat it.

I hope it tastes good. It would be a good step to helping biodiversity in oceans bounce back.

Not something that can be bought at a store yet, but they do have two restaurants lined up in the US serving it on a limited basis, one in Portland, OR and another in Austin, TX.
