Yep and Carney just ended the honeymoon. He’s gonna soon feel the wrath of Canadians who took a chance on his bougie “I’ve handled crisis before” ass.

Time to organize the protests. I’ve been considering a long term visit to Ottawa. Who is a protest leader there so I can get in the loop?

The clownvoy unfortunately was so effective in disruption it caused reasonable Canadians to question actual protest pretty hard. That it was organized by complete idiots for fucked up reasons is terrible. As protesters however we certainly could learn from their actions.

I was a union member my entire working life and a steward many times. Various unions for different things. There were some unions I wouldn’t protest for. Many of them are big national unions. They’re just as bad as the government. I still learned shit from them. Like what not to do.

This is exactly what people voted for. People hate trump so much that they let their emotions cast their votes, Conservatives aren’t much better but we would’ve likely seen a different change of approach on how things are ran.

NDP was suppose to be the in-between of Liberal and Conservative however, they’re far more Liberal than Conservative so it makes sense that their party isn’t crazy popular.

No. We would have seen the cons capitulate completely and invite our new king. What part of everything the cons have done over 40nyears gives a different impression?

        NDP

Had no chance of winning even a minority. And they won’t, as long as we need to focus on not getting conservatives driving our country into the dirt like they’ve done to our cousins in America.

It’s so tedious to repeat this.

You’re right. Poilievre would’ve agreed to Trump’s demands immediately to make them all richer and fuck the rest of us. Carney isn’t good, but the Cons would’ve been much worse. Don’t pull the same old “but Kamala” bullshit argument in here.

I have turned off a lot of US services and plan to have more turned off this week, I have been slowly cutting things as I come across them, my elbows are up it is to bad Carney has put his elbows down.

I was looking at my ISPs email stuff, for some reason? I found out they have moved to an exchange service, so a Microsoft protocol. I have sense started moving all of my emails off of there to (they are trying to stop offering email so it is nothing off their back).

If the resulting deal out of all this garbage isn’t something decent I wonder if the Liberals last long enough for Pierre to be possibly ousted next January.

Although I suppose we could negotiate a deal then Trump could change his made 2-3 times before that as well.

I don’t like it either, but stroking Trump’s ego and not doing anything to set him off is probably a better strategy than telling him to go fuck himself. Although I really really hope it works out. If Carney doesn’t get a win the Liberals are going to be replaced real quick.

I’m not sure pissing off bullies leads to fair deals either. I’m thinking Carney isn’t trying to get a good deal, but to avoid a trade war. Hell, Trump could order air strikes on Canada. He did it with Iran. Probably best not to piss him off. $2 billion in tax would be great but the government can also just print $2 billion if they really wanted to.

What makes you think that he won’t further a trade war or drop bombs on Vancouver if we do give him everything he wants? Placating bullies doesn’t pacify them, it emboldens them. Canada should be pushing back against the US and dragging the rest of the world with us in the process. Instead, everyone is just falling in line while Trump walks all over us.

If we’re really lucky, we’ll get to keep some cosmetic sovereignty out of all of this, but I don’t like our chances.

What would you do? Cut trade entirely? Start a war? Millions of Canadians will suffer over a 3% tax on Facebook?

Yes, I would have millions of Canadians suffer to maintain our right to set our own fiscal policy. The alternative is annexation. Have you seen what the US does to its own citizens? Can you imagine what they would do to Canada as a vassal state?

There’s no need to cut trade entirely, simply mirroring their tariffs would be sufficient. If they want lower tariffs, they know what they need to do.

Would I start a war? Obviously not, but I’m not going to fool myself into thinking I’m avoiding one by giving them everything they demand. It has, after all, never worked with any dictator ever in the history of the world. If war is coming, it’s because the Americans want it, and we should all be ready. That means building trade and military alliances with actual friends. I think re-tooling the nation’s economy on a war-footing would be a good idea too, but before we go that far, I think I’d adopt Doctorow’s advice and kill the legislation on digital locks. If the Americans want to treat us like enemies, they should see just what that means. We should “turn off the taps” for oil, gas, and electricity and start encouraging high-skilled Americans to resettle in Canada.

This could be a great opportunity for us: reverse the brain drain and get out from under the US thumb. They’ve demonstrated that there’s no way to deal with them fairly, so now the alternative, albeit the more difficult route, is the only viable option.

The millions of Canadians suffering only works for a time. In the end people will vote away freedom in exchange for a piece of bread. This much has been proven by history. So in any plan that involves the suffering of millions, there has to be a portion that ends that suffering in as short time frame as possible. I’m not sure there is one at the moment. There are some concepts of a plan. I don’t know if we can realistically do this for example without opening up trade with China and only relying on the EU as a replacement to the US. And right now we’re taking a more or less China Bad stance. Perhaps this would change if we get fucked by Trump. Perhaps Carney is using this as a stick in negotiations. E.g. if you fuck us, we’ll have no choice but to do China OK in order to take care of Canadians. Maybe the EU is enough, I don’t know. I just know that the EU themselves are dependent on China in a few areas and we shouldn’t be paying their profit margins to get the same stuff.

I’m not sure if we’ll replace him just yet. He has to show that he’s tried all reasonable avenues and if he does and Trump still fucks us, then he comes out and says - I tried all I could, now we’ll have to take these unprecedented steps to prevent economic meltdown. I think in such a scenario Canadians would rally behind him and consent to COVID-like economic supports among other things, even WWII style policies around prices controls, taxes and so on, depending on how bad things get. The other parties would also be forced to support him because it would look pretty bad if they stood against taking care of Canadians during an economic crisis.

So that’s three taxes cut and a promise to increase the share of the national budget spent on the military to 30~%. One of the tax cuts and the military spending target being direct capitulations to Trump. Great start. What’s next, we end national health care and open the Canadian market to US health insurance companies?
