Yes, he should have left the mansion empty. To stay connected to the lives of those he represents while maintaining his well-being and safety, he should live off his $127.6k salary and very nice health and retirement benefits. He doesn’t live the life of his constituents. Maintenance of his quality of life and that of his family is now dependent upon representing the will of the corporate donor. He’s very “in touch” with the exploitation of his constituents or he’d not be a candidate for DNC VP.
