    I guess Lemmy as a federalized platform mitigates a lot of the problems (mainly all subreddits being at the mercy of one company) addressed in this article.

      There is a big drawback tho: It is far more likely that a sub here simply stops existing. Everything everyone did there is simply gone. I have had that happen with several classical forums before, but they usually lasted more than a decade. Also, it is not exactly easy to find stuff written here, so it is way too fenced off. If I write a guide how to fix X, how would anyone find it?

        Yeah, additionally if a post is removed or deleted for any reason, all of the comments of that post are also nuked and all of that information is lost.

      I feel like Lemmy is a worthwhile future for forums and more.
