It’s old code so I imagine they probably used a single byte to store it. Probably figured the Gay value only goes from 0 to 100 so they could have -100 for totally Straight, up to 100 for totally Gay and still have some padding room. To be fair though the Devs couldn’t possibly have foreseen the Tumblr expansion absolutely shattering the scale.
