We achieved boots on the moon (using metric AND the imperial system ;) during the Apollo mission; Britain by contrast achieved celebrations as conscription ended and loud drunken Beatles concerts, but not much else.

Only the instruments for the astronauts displayed imperial units. All the science and engineering was done in metric.
