Corporate profits and soulless capitalism aside. Do you think that petabytes of server space and countless hours of making videos for your entertainment should be free?

I mean lets imagine we create a space for creators to upload without most of the revenue going to a fat ceo. There are no algorithms tweaked for constant numbing entertainment just to squeeze every last minute of our attention. Just a platform for people to talk about their passion and create content heaps better than the shit on the tv. Would we still be bitching that it should be free? Because i think we would

They need to know you’ve actually paid for the content. Its the norm with streaming apps, even if the music is on your device it still needs to be authorized to actually play it. Otherwise you would be able to download as much content as possible within one billing period, cancel your subscription and enjoy hundreds of dollars worth of music for one monthly fee.

Their paid offerings suck in more ways than this sadly. Youtube search sucks balls even if you pay for premium. They constantly ask you to watch their “shorts”, and small creators sometimes have a very hard time staying monetized because of bullshit that youtube makes them go through. It is partially our fault tho, collectively we watch the dumbest shit. Logan Paul had shitloads of subscribers and made a fortune because thats what normal prople like to watch.

FYI downloads are good for 30 days, not 3.

Lot of things are free, and seeking financial compensation also ends in lots of competitive nudgy, click-baitey, rage inducing content.

I’d like to share some skills, well when they are good enough :-) and I would be delighted if people used the material at all! Even, or actually more delighted, if they used it to make even better material.

Do you really think they are doing it for free??

In the second quarter of 2023, Google’s revenue amounted to over 74,3 billion U.S. dollars, up from the 69.1 billion U.S. dollars registered in the same quarter a year prior. The company amounted an annual revenue of 279.8 billion U.S. dollars throughout 2022, its highest value to date, with most of its earnings being powered by advertising through Google sites and its network.

No, but if everyone started using ad blockers they would. Thats the point here, isn’t it? Google wants to stop people using ad blockers because the are loosing revenue.

Revenue ain’t profit mate. Everyone knows the only reason Google exists is because ads support them so they can give all their services for free primarily.
