I lived in Texas for two years. The number of times I had the following conversation was staggering:

Texas is the best place in the world!

Oh? Where else have you been?

I ain’t been anywhere else… Why would I go anywhere else? Texas is the best place in the world!

Sometimes there was legitimate confusion on their face. Sometimes it was delivered deadpan. Sotimes it was more of a challenge or threat. It was always flabbergasting…

Texas would be a pretty awesome place, if not for all the Texans. They’re insufferable.

You mean how colonizers from the US seceded from Mexico so they could keep slavery, joined the US after a hot minute, then seceded from the US so they could keep slavery? Or some other origin?

It’s better than that. Those Texans moved down there specifically to infiltrate because, and steal the land. Unironically the exact same thing they claim “Mexicans” (all Spanish speaking brown people) are doing today. My mom’s from Texas and everytime she brought up that conspiracy theory I’d just point out they’re using the Texas playbook and say “and what could be more American than that?”

Reality is a team sport, to some people. You cheer for the tribe you were born in or you’re an asshole.
