    When? I keep hearing this but I’m pretty sure no such statement has been made.

    Multiple times. And if you read the EU charter, membership is only open to countries in Europe. The charter would have to be changed.

      Clearly you haven’t read the whole thing either, because it’s not. Cyprus is fully in Asia.

      (And I actually read parts of it just earlier today, FWIW)
