What fucking dystopian timeline is this, where a social media company has military ambitions? I was hoping for the Idiocracy version where I can get a handjob at Starbucks.

It’s the one where we died somewhere between 2016 and 2021 and this is actually purgatory, where we are being punished slowly, but without the fires of hell.

I’d argue it was after 9/11. Ppl are more than willing to give up their freedom for a false sense of security

Perhaps it was the Y2K bug that killed us all. The planet blew up and everything after that has just been purgatory. Maybe the matrix had it right when they said that the 90s was peak humanity.

This is quite poetic. And some people still have a chance for redemption in these hard time by simply being nice, but they can’t, right in front of everyone else’s eyes.

If you think of them as Oculus, it makes more sense. VR is a great training tool for things that need subjects not readily available. A good example is teaching doctors surgical practices without the need for patients or test animals (at least in initial rounds). So in that scenario, VR can he used to help save lives. In some instances, the military does the same, so why not use VR?

And then, you know, do the reverse of that, too, I guess? Ugh.
