We have added a new rule to the community:

Rule # 1: Stay on Topic

The purpose of this community has always been to share news and have discussions about everything related to Nintendo, some of these can be good, some of these can be bad. If you want to gush over the new Mario, you are welcome to do so, if you want to criticise Nintendo for their various lawsuits, you are also welcome to do so, as they are all on topic discussions.

What is not on-topic is posting “Fuck Nintendo” and it’s variations on random posts. We have generally ignored these before, as we don’t want to stop anyone from sharing their sentiments, but this has started to increase the toxicity in the posts, for those who do enjoy Nintendo games and the community. You can still disagree, or even hate Nintendo, but your comment must be related to the post. If you just want to discuss general issues with Nintendo, you are welcome to create a post detailing it’s failures, as long as it doesn’t break any other rules.

So, in short, comments like the following are fine:

“Man, I hate Nintendo, why can’t they give the game upgrades for free like PlayStation?”

But comments like the ones below are off-topic and will be removed:

“Fuck Nintendo”

Or

“I hope this flops”

Please report any off-topic posts you find, so that mods can take a look and remove them.

Thanks

P.S: Since this rule has been added on top, as #1, all other rule numbers have increased by 1, so previous #1 has become #2, and #2 has become #3 and so on.

Lemmy has become a lot less civil over the last several months. It’s been disappointing to see, and I engage a lot less. Reddit banning people like crazy hasn’t helped.

I left when the API changes put third party apps out of business, so I don’t have firsthand experience with it. From what I’ve read here on Lemmy and elsewhere, they’ve just gone off the deep end with automated bans and refusing to properly consider appeals.

One thing I saw that at least some subreddits were doing was to ban anyone using the name “Luigi” in a comment or post, even if they weren’t talking about Luigi Mangione.

My guess is that they chased away all of the good moderators, and what is left is shitty, power-hungry mods and bad automation.

There are communities here on Lemmy that continually talk about these issues with Reddit. Lots of the banned users are ending up here (and with that comes good and bad things).

Ah, okay. I left reddit at the same time, during the great exodus. These days only open the site if it comes up during search for some info. It has tons of info from all those users using it for couple of decades.

Yes everyone has gotten so angry lately. I get why… but it’d be nice to still have some nice online spaces.
