I’ll have a band or subgenre in mind, and I search for artists like that, or bands in that subgenre. Once I find a band that seems interesting, I’ll listen to their most popular song on youtube, bandcamp, the band’s website. Then I’ll listen to their latest single. If I like it, I’ll keep digging, probably buy album after listening to more of their stuff.

Then I’ll start looking into bands like that one, or look into their side projects, or any features, or who they most recently toured with.

I also try to go to a few concerts a year, and I’ll check out the opening acts way before the show, some of those ended up being my favorite bands overnight, like Nekrogoblikon.
