I wrapped a gift for someone by tying it up with string, no tape.
I never occurred to me before that the reason old packages and gifts were tied up with string or ribbon was because tape wasn’t a thing, it wasn’t simply decorative like it is most of the time these days.
I wrote stuff on the paper I don’t really want to post, but here is the video which led me to the realization. If you’re into gift wrapping, you’ll love this, as he shows 3 options and goes all out, and really thinks about the experience of opening the gift. The box I wrapped was a pretty decent size and I didn’t really have an issue.
He also has a video on making your own custom boxes to size things correctly, if you want to be really extra. His whole channel is amazing and very calming to watch. And fun fact, if you’ve ever seen the movie Mean Girls… he played Kevin G.
@bob_wiley genuinely just spent the last half hour watching this guy wrap presents - he gets so much joy out of it!
Reminds me of the start of every school year: my mom and I would sit and wrap my textbooks up in calendar paper, making sure the nice pictures ended up on the front cover.
Gotta step up my wrapping game now - I don’t know if I can commit to tossing all my dept store Christmas wrap yet, but I think it’s gonna be butcher paper or those awesome vintage posters for birthdays etc.

@bob_wiley @ericbomb I think you just blew my mind a little. I’ve never thought of it that way before.
As someone who loves wrapping (my and anyone else’s who will let me) gifts around Christmastime, I think I’ll try doing just ribbons this year.
Any pictures of how it turned out?

@bob_wiley also a bit click baitey, but I also found an article of why he left Hollywood :( https://www.today.com/popculture/movies/mean-girls-rajiv-surendra-reason-he-left-hollywood-rcna69448
Seems like he’s still doing what he loves though and enjoys it.
