The average global temperature reached 17.01C (62.62F) on Monday, according to the US National Centres for Environmental Prediction. It comes as the southern US and China have been hit by heatwaves, while temperatures in North Africa have neared 50C (122F).

    It’s been downright cold in Denver. We’ve had rain almost every day for the past few weeks and total rainfall has exceeded that of Seattle this year. Our heater has been coming on and we’ve barely had to use AC. Today it’s overcast and about 70 again.
