I find this kind of reasoning disappointing. I mean, nobody ever says “I got cancer despite exercise and healthy eating!” It specious reasoning to assume the environment isnt affected by many, many different things. And the problem is how its being attacked at all angles.

Yeah carbon is out of control. Yeah the forests are burning. But to ignore plastic pollution, recycling, or whatever is the flavour today, is a dangerous lack of judgement. Recycling is important, but you dont just tackle it by processing used materials (at high energy cost). You tackle it by not buying shit like bottled water (North and Central America are the worst for this - buy a gravity filter ffs), making things last, using materials that just need to be cleaned rather than melted down every time…

…we are fucked because people reduce shit to memes rather than doing something (talk to MPs, companies, buy ethical).

What? People literally say this all the time!

Oh yeah, why don’t some people just strike?

Just buy ethical (with not enough money), write a letter to your local politician (who doesn’t care and can’t do anything about it) or talk to Amazon and Starbucks, they will surely listen!

How many of those things do you do?

Are you a vegan? (everything else is not ethical)

Do you buy in stores? (nearly nothing is produced by companies who really do smth for the environment)

Do you regularly write to all your politicians to all matters? (How did it work out?)

This “all or nothing” response is exactly why nothing gets done. How is being vegan ethical when all the food is shipped at environmental cost? This is exactly why I said you need to lobby your politicians.

What I do is ride a bike instead of drive. I walk where I can. I dont use the heat during winter until its 5C or less out. I dont buy much meat, I buy even less fish (maybe a pack of fishcakes or battered fish once every 4-5 months; and some chicken once a month). I dont buy bottled drinks, I use reusable containers for food and drinks…

…but this isnt about me. Its about a mindset that reduces everything down to memes and soundbites.
