It’s a 27gb download that’s 35gb after installation. Not sure where you got 85gb from.

It’s 33.61GB on my PC. I dunno where Valve got the 85GB requirement from
Extraction space for archives is my bet.
The space is then cleared post extraction and completed installation.
Maybe for temporary files during installation?
Probably just misread the 3 as an 8
