Is it really, though? The guy is a piece of shit but he was president for four years and America survived.

Let me guess… the women in “the bad states” deserve what they get.

No, what happened to them is terrible and I hope every one of them remembers how badly their leaders failed them on election day

How do you know how they voted to begin with? Maybe they didn’t vote for those leaders. You know votes in red states aren’t unanimous, right? So, again, sort of sounding like you’re saying they’re getting what they deserve…

Word. I’m here in Ohio and my wife and I didn’t vote for any of this shit. We don’t plan on staying here too too much longer, but there are hundreds of thousands here who also think the cheatin’-ass politicians here are ruining people’s lives but don’t have the luxury to move and are thus stuck here. Fortunately, we did show up back in August to block some underhanded GOP bullshit designed to kill reproductive rights, and hopefully will show up again in November to codify those rights, against their machinations.

You can’t throw away your only voice and then complain about not being heard.

You don’t vote, then you get exactly what you voted for, what other people want.

Bro, as a woman in a “good state”, abortion rights (it’s not abortion rights, it’s bodily autonomy) did not survive. They are thinly-veiled and hanging on by a thread.

It took me 3 years, 5 doctors, and 2 ‘health care providers’ to be granted the right to sterilization and I was still asked “what if you meet a guy and HE wants a baby?!” multiple times. There were mental health councilors and board decisions. They insisted I would want more because I would meet the right man, even after having an abortion post-child. That was 12 years ago during the Obama administration in a dependable blue state. That shit is NOT sacrosanct and never was.

Maybe Congress should have made an actual law instead of leaning on a court ruling for decades. Congress needs to stop using the court to protect them from having to make unpopular decisions. This also wasn’t anything Trump was pushing for, I don’t think he gave any thought to the issue at all.

If they were to make abortion legal, how does one selectively enforce that? Federal agents blocking people from entering abortion clinics?

They defeat it the courts… I don’t know, have some schmuck file a lawsuit and then have a republican led Supreme Court escalate it then rule its unconstitutional. That never happens though.

So have Congress make a new amendment for it. They had the time. That’s much harder to overturn and it’s much more difficult for a court to ignore a constitutional amendment vs some old case law.

Yeah, that would have stuck. Though, I do fear the lengths they would go through to defeat an amendment. As we have witnessed its not beyond them to enlist nazis and foreign governments. I can’t even imagine.

I mean, there are ammendments they want to defeat right now. Those one don’t have the spin of “baby murder.”

When a man slams his head into my window, and the glass cracks but doesn’t shatter, my response is not “He can do it again, no big deal, the window didn’t break”, it’s “Holy shit did I get lucky, someone stop that stupid fuck from doing that again”

You’re right. That’s not my response. My response is “Cowing to the threat of politically motivated violence is the death of democracy.” Trump goes to jail. What happens after that is immaterial - if the law does not apply to the powerful, even those who attempt to overthrow our democratically-elected government, then we have no democratic government. We have an oligarchy counting the minutes until their next consequence-free coup works.

A civil war is pretty damned far from immaterial. You guys might even lose! You have to defeat him at the polls, other countries have tried doing things the other way and it doesn’t end well.

Other countries have also tried the “Defeat him at the polls!” method. Doesn’t always work. There are no guaranteed defences. No matter what you do, it will be a risk. However, what is guaranteed is that without the rule of law, there is no real government, only elites and us commoners. Without the rule of law, we do nothing but trade time for another Trump coup attempt - or an attempt by someone marginally less stupid.
