Just have to get people to call Washington, D.C. just “DC”. My high school went to a band festival in Indianapolis and when people asked where we were from (especially the east side schools) we’d have to clarify that we’re from the state of Washington and not DC.
There’s also the added bonus that WA is also Western Australia, so I always have to double-check whenever it’s mention in headlines

I just assume that whatever is happening in WA is also happening in WA. Makes the world seem much more magical
