Reports of a staggering drop in the value of the worst social media site in the world coincided with Elon Must Tweeting that “cis” is a slur. Coincidence?
I guess the response to that is “So since most people in the world have brown eyes, we shouldn’t describe them as them brown-eyed because that’s offensive, we should call them normal”
It highlights how absurd the argument is, which I think is a better route than trying to convince those kinds of people why “normal” for cis people is by default stigmatizing to trans people. They won’t really care about that angle, stigmatization is the whole point.
That’s a technical argument. Technical arguments don’t work on transphobes because transphobes aren’t motivated by logic, they’re motivated by emotion. The correct argument to use on a transphobe is one that humiliates them in the eyes of all onlookers. The only way to reform a transphobe is public shame.
Yeah, which is why I think making their argument look dim and incoherent ftom a logical persoective is a better way than appealing to their empathy. If they get the sense that a certain argument will make them look stupid, they might drop it.
