I often see the sentiment that YouTube and adblockers will be forever locked in a cat-and-mouse game. However, for many years now, Twitch has entirely eliminated adblocking on desktop web.

What is stopping YouTube from replicating Twitch’s advertising strategy of embedding ads directly into their videos?

I only ever had it bug me about this once with ublock on as it’s always been and I thought it was going to be some kind of several warnings then refusing to work thing and I’d have to follow some specific steps to restore functionality of the site with adblock on but it seems to have fixed itself because it just doesn’t hassle me about it ever now and I didn’t do a thing.

well, i’m not about to go back now that i have an ad-free experience… it was apathy and laziness that kept me there, and now invidious is a much better way to consume the content

i don’t use sponsorblock, so creators can monetise me (ie i can “pay” for the content) that way and google won’t see a cent or be able to farm my data (well, i’m sure they can but probably not as well)
