    There is at least 2 eclipse per years, so I don’t see why this one would specifically generate conspiracy theories over all the others.

    People will do prediction that will realize by default (Earthquake, people dying, and so on) and claim to have super power, same shit as usual

      Total solar eclipse (comparatively rare) passing over a good amount of the US (also rare).

      The real question is why didn’t the one 7 years ago that also fit those criteria generate these conspiracy theories? (they may have, but just wasn’t talked about so much)

        The main problem is you’re assuming that conspiracy theorists are normal rational people who think these things through

      Because this one is going over America, and Americans think the world revolves around them. In this case more literally than usual.
