    This is hilarious.

My husband runs our Lemmy instance, and he’s subscribed to the Linux community, which is one of the most active on Lemmy (I probably don’t need to tell you that.) I’m basically just here for memes and I ultimately blocked the Linux community because it was all over my feed. I’m a normie and I just don’t care about Linux whatsoever, not enough for every other post to be about it anyway.

Yeah it’s like a person who likes squid pizza and attempts to insert their love for the pizza every sentence they utter.

Some of us just like a simple pineapple pizza. And we’re too deep into it you cannot change us without changing the very atoms that comprise our earthly bodies.

Sorry to be clear, I am not saying Linux sucks. I just don’t have an opinion on desktop operating systems. And I was tired of every other post on my feed being about operating systems instead of the dumb internet pictures that I love and crave.

      I enjoy Linux memes.

But not when the only joke they can muster being “Other OS bad for [insert dumb false argument here]”

See the problem is, and I’ve experienced this myself, you leave Windows when it has a set of issues that have been long running. Then years later you get into an argument or make a meme and Windows now actually fixed that issue without you noticing because, well you’re not using it anymore.

Still would like some memes other than “hurr durr, Windows bad”, there’s plenty of memeable content within the Linux ecosystem (like every second app for a small niche ignoring XDG_HOME and just shitting the config files all over your home directory)

I think the issue is that most Linux users aren’t technically proficient enough to understand and make actual Linux memes about things like XDG_HOME, so the best they can think of is “Windows bad”.

Most people I deal with don’t give a fuck about Linux lol I would guess most of them don’t even know what it is hahaha. People thinking about making a living, getting laid, paying rent, planning a vacation, worrying about a sick mom… Like regular life stuff… Poor bastards I guess if they don’t know about Linux 😂

I mean I know people who are still trying to find bypasses to get around Microsoft and their online only strategy.

If you’re still doing this, you.need to try Linux.

I know people who are still trying to find bypasses so they can use their audio in Linux.

Time for them to switch to Windows.

Time to switch to a Linux distro that works. There’s plenty good ones out there, your people must be picking the shit ones… Or compiling their own and badly.

Any distro that uses Pipewire (most at this point) is incredibly stable with the audio setup.

PulseAudio was a bit rough at the beginning, but it got much better. But Pipewire at this point is hands down amazing.

In the 10-ish years I use Linux, I’ve never had any sound issues. I really don’t get how people think this is still an issue.

Agreed. I’ve been slowly moving the machines onto nixOS, and I’m reformatting an older Mac for a neighbor on nixOS as well. On the livecd it runs impressively fast, but on OSX it’s so slow as to be unusable. Windows is now so actively hostile that it’s time to make the jump.

To be honest I’d still be on Windows if MS hadn’t screwed me out of the license I bought through the MS store and attached to my MS account. I do kinda miss the new Bing assistant in Edge, that was neat to screw around with for free while I was on that OS

There are .deb and .rpm versions of Edge for Linux. Doesn’t get mentioned on the main download site until you scroll below the Mac/iPhone/Android options.

You can use it on other browsers with a little bit of work, changing user agents and things like that.

Try to understand, not everyone likes windows. They require quite a bit of maintenance, are usually insecure and speaking personally, some setups just don’t look good. It’s why some people opt for skylights instead.

Honestly windows is so slow at this point, we just use door. Why waste all that energy and power just to get the thing off the ground when alternatives exist?

Windows is an anachronism. Since I even got my wife and her gaming PC on the light side with Garuda Linux, works like a charm. After that she wanted me to install that “cool blank desktop” I have on my work laptop on her business machine in the shop. Now she loves bspwm. Learning doesn’t make life harder per se, it’s fun.

I recently switched from brave too Firefox And I love it so far

But edge, especially the new chromium based one isn’t half bad and I believe it’s actually faster then chrome

And certainly a hell of a lot better then internet explorer

The cool thing about browser choice is there are no “correct” answers – it’s personal preference.

So don’t let the fanboys get you down. You’re entitled to your opinion even if it is wrong.

When it comes to browsing the web and showing content and having good add-ons, edge does a good job.

But why does it need to constantly advertise itself and other microsoft things to me? It’s annoying when Firefox does this, but it feels like edge does it almost every time I open it.
