This is hilarious.
My husband runs our Lemmy instance, and he’s subscribed to the Linux community, which is one of the most active on Lemmy (I probably don’t need to tell you that.) I’m basically just here for memes and I ultimately blocked the Linux community because it was all over my feed. I’m a normie and I just don’t care about Linux whatsoever, not enough for every other post to be about it anyway.
Yeah it’s like a person who likes squid pizza and attempts to insert their love for the pizza every sentence they utter.
Some of us just like a simple pineapple pizza. And we’re too deep into it you cannot change us without changing the very atoms that comprise our earthly bodies.
ALL ABOARD THE WINDOWS SUX COX TRAIN! CHOO CHOO MFs!!
Sorry to be clear, I am not saying Linux sucks. I just don’t have an opinion on desktop operating systems. And I was tired of every other post on my feed being about operating systems instead of the dumb internet pictures that I love and crave.

I enjoy Linux memes.
But not when the only joke they can muster being “Other OS bad for [insert dumb false argument here]”
The templeOS jokes kill another piece of me everytime I read them
insert thing that hasn’t happened since Windows 7 here
See the problem is, and I’ve experienced this myself, you leave Windows when it has a set of issues that have been long running. Then years later you get into an argument or make a meme and Windows now actually fixed that issue without you noticing because, well you’re not using it anymore.
Still would like some memes other than “hurr durr, Windows bad”, there’s plenty of memeable content within the Linux ecosystem (like every second app for a small niche ignoring XDG_HOME and just shitting the config files all over your home directory)
I think the issue is that most Linux users aren’t technically proficient enough to understand and make actual Linux memes about things like XDG_HOME, so the best they can think of is “Windows bad”.
Most people I deal with don’t give a fuck about Linux lol I would guess most of them don’t even know what it is hahaha. People thinking about making a living, getting laid, paying rent, planning a vacation, worrying about a sick mom… Like regular life stuff… Poor bastards I guess if they don’t know about Linux 😂
I do those things while I organize them in emacs. Best of both worlds!
You get laid in emacs?
You can do anything in there, “all it needs is a good text editor”
Alrighty then
that’s why I have Linux into my list of blocked communities
Windows bad, give Internet points!
Edge browser bad, give Internet points!
I’m an edgy corporate fuckboy, give Internet points!
The funny thing is: Edge isn’t actually a bad browser. It’s basically Chrome with custom Microsoft UI. So it behaves like pretty much all other browsers except Firefox.
Except they force side buttons and other crap onto it.
You can disable those
I know, but it’s like all windows crapware, “you can disable them” yeah that sucks because from time to time it’s Kazoing back after a reboot…
Just started it for you, since I’m on my work device which runs Windows.
What exactly do you mean? Looks like a plain browser window to me.
I had to disable some outlook sync feature a while ago that opened on every new tab, otherwise it’s been fine.
Yep. It is very integrated into the OS. Since it is the OS default browser released by the same company as the OS this is no surprise.
As a tech-savvy user one can configure it to their use case. Everyone else can simply use it as it is and they will be fine most of the time.
Not only UI, but also trackers by microsoft. Btw no I wouldnt say chrome is a good one either
chrome with microsoft ui
hence bad
Firefox good, Steam deck good, unity bad!
God damn kids these days.
Internet Explorer was bad, give me internet points.
Bring back NSAPI plugins!
I miss visiting random dubious websites, only for a command prompt to pop up and disappear, and then sudden CPU and network spikes as it does god knows what…
Bring back anti-trust lawsuits, while we’re on the topic of cool things that aren’t done anymore
They are! There are US antitrust cases going on right now against Google (x2), Amazon, and Meta/Facebook. Some links that may be of interest:
- FTC Sues Amazon for Illegally Maintaining Monopoly Power
- U.S. and Plaintiff States v. Google LLC (2020) – trial began on September 12, 2023 (this case regards search, I think)
- U.S. and Plaintiff States v. Google LLC (2023) – complaint PDF (this is a second case against Google)
- FTC v. Facebook
MOAR!
just block me now then I don’t have any other personality traits
My linux config does give me a boner tho
Don’t fuck the toaster
If God didn’t want me to fuck the toaster, why did he make it so damn sexy?
The… Toaster? Why the fuck would a Toaster run linux?
Congratulations, your toaster can now run Doom
Smart Toast…
But… that’s how we get Battle Star Galactica… right?
I mean I know people who are still trying to find bypasses to get around Microsoft and their online only strategy.
If you’re still doing this, you.need to try Linux.
I know people who are still trying to find bypasses so they can use their audio in Linux.
Time for them to switch to Windows.
Time to switch to a Linux distro that works. There’s plenty good ones out there, your people must be picking the shit ones… Or compiling their own and badly.
Any distro that uses Pipewire (most at this point) is incredibly stable with the audio setup.
PulseAudio was a bit rough at the beginning, but it got much better. But Pipewire at this point is hands down amazing.
In the 10-ish years I use Linux, I’ve never had any sound issues. I really don’t get how people think this is still an issue.
Agreed. I’ve been slowly moving the machines onto nixOS, and I’m reformatting an older Mac for a neighbor on nixOS as well. On the livecd it runs impressively fast, but on OSX it’s so slow as to be unusable. Windows is now so actively hostile that it’s time to make the jump.
Uhm, but why NixOS?
Guaranteed reproducible builds
To be honest I’d still be on Windows if MS hadn’t screwed me out of the license I bought through the MS store and attached to my MS account. I do kinda miss the new Bing assistant in Edge, that was neat to screw around with for free while I was on that OS
There are .deb and .rpm versions of Edge for Linux. Doesn’t get mentioned on the main download site until you scroll below the Mac/iPhone/Android options.
I do kinda miss the new Bing assistant in Edge, that was neat to screw around with for free while I was on that OS
You can use it on other browsers with a little bit of work, changing user agents and things like that.
Username checks out.
Ok, boomer.
Since you asked, I recommend Fedora.
Try to understand, not everyone likes windows. They require quite a bit of maintenance, are usually insecure and speaking personally, some setups just don’t look good. It’s why some people opt for skylights instead.
Honestly windows is so slow at this point, we just use door. Why waste all that energy and power just to get the thing off the ground when alternatives exist?
Windows is an anachronism. Since I even got my wife and her gaming PC on the light side with Garuda Linux, works like a charm. After that she wanted me to install that “cool blank desktop” I have on my work laptop on her business machine in the shop. Now she loves bspwm. Learning doesn’t make life harder per se, it’s fun.
I use arch btw Edge sucks
Edge is a decent browser. Second best after Firefox.
I recently switched from brave too Firefox And I love it so far
But edge, especially the new chromium based one isn’t half bad and I believe it’s actually faster then chrome
And certainly a hell of a lot better then internet explorer
Edge is super lightweight and very handy for websites that don’t play well with Firefox and my suite of extentions.
What a surprise the browser made by the same dev as the OS, is optimized for the OS.
The cool thing about browser choice is there are no “correct” answers – it’s personal preference.
So don’t let the fanboys get you down. You’re entitled to your opinion even if it is wrong.
When it comes to browsing the web and showing content and having good add-ons, edge does a good job.
But why does it need to constantly advertise itself and other microsoft things to me? It’s annoying when Firefox does this, but it feels like edge does it almost every time I open it.
Plus I believe you can turn it off in firefox
Yep. It’s me. Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and savior, GNU/Linux?
Wait they don’t have a trinity?
Or as I like to call it GNU+Linux.
No I’m pretty sure it’s GNU divided by Linux
HERETIC! The true salvation lies in Plan9! Trust the rabbit, renounce the penguin!
Bloatware! Even assembly language is barely acceptable, best is directly changing the mechanical relays in your Zuse one, naturally. If you wanna get crazy, change the celluloid strip with another program & get Doom to run on it.
Those bricks are laid incredibly poorly, look at all those gaps
In german we don’t say shitty brick wall, we say ‘Landhauscharme’ and I think it’s beautiful.
Ich hab das jetzt als Land Hausch Arme gelesen und war verwirrt
Dachte ich schon beim Schreiben. Hier wäre ein kleiner Bindestrich vielleicht nützlich gewesen.
Thank you!
My first thought was, this is incredibly bad bricklaying, there’s so much missing mortar and uneven alignment.
AND at least 2 of them are already cracked!
British bricklayer.
