An unfortunate oversight, definitely. Acting like it was an intentionally malicious choice or that it makes bluesky so incompetent they should shut down is a huge reach, though.

To be fair, Lemmy has the same problem, there are at least two trolls I’ve encountered with such username.
Blocking trashy, racist, etc is one of, if not the first thing that should be included and they couldn’t even be bothered. Not giving me hope.
Apparently, making it so people couldn’t use the n-word in their user name just wasn’t a priority. But making it so you could get banned for using “cracker,” however, was.
I think that the main thing this reveals about the bluesky admins is that they haven’t thought that hard about harrasment, which is weird to not do if you’re trying to launch a new social media platform.

It’s owned by Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter who sold Twitter to Elon Musk
Ok Dorsey doesn’t own Bluesky but Bluesky is apparently completely independent from Musk and Twitter which ultimately was all I was concerned with. Thank you.
