Reddit improved their anti-ban evasion system, cuz it’s the sixth or more failed attempt at evading a permanent ban. Never more, I am staying here.
FUCK YOU, SPEZ!
Reddit is a lost cause.
Sadly yeah
I still use it as a read-only debugging tool through search engines. It’s great for finding a way to open up your 2009 dell laptop and replacing the WiFi antenna
Sounds like you need to join the LeMLM. Pick your favorite niche community and pledge to post something to it daily (if possible, or at least as often as your can).
Then recruit 2 other people to go adopt their own niche communities. Then each of them recruits 2 more, each of them will recruit, and so on and so on. Pretty soon your downline is pumping out so much OC you’ll forget all about Spez and his sad little fiefdom.
Why don’t you do this?
Would you like to join my downline?
I am shooting for the pink Lincoln Continental and the trip to Hawaii.
Downline?
Their original comment used the same word “downline”, so I’m sure you can figure out from context that they’re asking if you want to help them do the same thing they’re already doing.
It sounds like that’s exactly what they’re literally doing right now. Ya dingus.
Can’t you simply register an account on old.reddit without using email (they ask but you leave it empty) and after changing your IP with your VPN?
Doubt they’ve fixed that yet.
Not that there’s any point. If you’re not interacting with bots or copy-pasted comments, you’re interacting with morons and people who think internet points matter.
You described reddit really well, it’s a question of niche communities like I said
I finally overwrote all my comments and deleted my account. 16 years there, but as soon as I checked the front page this week before deleting, every comment and post was the same old “this” and “take my upvote” and vitriolic hate toward different or uncommon opinions, zero dialogue, such a mess
Thanks lemmings
I had stopped using Reddit but hadn’t deleted my account, your comment reminded me to do that. Just deleted it. :)
Nice. The increase in content is not worth the headache and tedium.
Just make sure to check again in a day or two. At the height of the purge, reddit was shown to be restoring deleted or over-written comments to what they were before.
I know that they were restoring deleted accounts, but I don’t think there’s any way for them to restore over written comments to previous versions, so overwritten comments are probably more important than actually deleting the account, although you can delete it after you overwrite everything.
Nothing is ever deleted from Reddit and edits are stored. Deleting it doesn’t actually delete it, it just marks it as deleted.
This is information coming directly from Reddit devs/admins over the years.
Can you link to evidence of comments being timestamped, restored or archived by reddit? I’ve read about both deletes being reversible and edits being stored, but I found no incontrovertible evidence for comment iterations being stored or recovered, although there seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence for deleted accounts being easily restored by admins, which would make sense.
No because I can’t be bothered. Its common knowledge and again, this comes from multiple confirmations even from spez himself.
I’ve heard that repeated, but I haven’t seen any evidence of it with regards to overwritten comments. Deletions, yes, but so far there doesn’t seem to be any cause for concern for restoring overwritten comments.
You forgot “and my axe”, “to shreds you say” and “I wish they didn’t remove awards so I could give you one”, or maybe even the ‘rare’ “take my angry upvote and leave”?
Yeah I like that we can actually hold real conversations here, as far as ‘real’ goes of course.
Plenty of that shit on here mate
You forgot “this is the way”
^^ This
Take my upvote and get out.
Thanks for the gold kind stranger! (Well not anymore hehe)
I also choose to beat this mans dead horse
And pun chains, and a guy quoting a Simpsons episode followed by 12 more idiots quoting the rest of the episode. Painful. I see that shit in lemmy but not nearly as much.
Hold my updoot, I’m going in
Yup. It feels like I am usually talking to individuals here, which is much more enjoyable than flailing in an overwhelming monoculture.
Y’indeed I love seeing notifications here and reload every few minutes to see if someone replied to me (not now obviously because I’m high and forgot to reply to you earlier and it’s also taking me a good few minutes to type up this reply).
On Reddit I usually hoped that everyone upvoted, of course, and that none of them reply. Especially when I argumented with someone, because I’m actually really bad at argumenting about things I perceive as negative. […]
The rest is just a stoned tirade (I didn’t want to delete it because I find it amusing), there’s no Tl;Dr to be made, just don’t read it unless you choose to make me a god and want to use the genoxidedev1 lore to practice that new religion. Anyways:
[…] I’m also bad at argumenting about things I’m good at, which only leaves me being good at argumenting about things I’m bad at, but I’f im good at argumenting about things I’m bad at it would mean that I’m good at argumenting about me argumenting about things I’m good at, so, if we use that logic for all the other things I could be doing I’m actually the best at everything. Wow. I just lost an argument against myself, cool or something.

That was quick, thanks! Have one back
Bestowing +1 Dopamine
2 people giving me positive status effects in such little time, I wonder what the boss fight is gonna be…
how do you see reply notifications on kbin
“I wish they didn’t remove awards so I could give you one”
That’s a new one to me! Because they still had awards the last time I used it.
Yea that’s just what replaced the “Have my poor mans gold 🏅” now, which still somehow comes up too.
Start your niche community on lemmy then advertise it in some other groups. You might be surprised how much better it is here.
You eventually have to use a VPN to get around their IP bans but reddit isn’t worth the trouble
I tried, but not even that seems to be enough

They use browser fingerprinting. Not only do you need a new IP address, but you need to make your browser characteristics look sufficiently different from anything you’ve used before (including all metadata that your browser sends to Reddit.com like OS, time zone, CPU, GPU, etc). Otherwise they will re-associate you and ban your new account. It’s annoying as fuck.
I still have no idea what they banned me for. Spez is on record saying it’s fine to create a new account as long as you don’t repeat the behavior that got you banned, but their actions say no, you’re banned for life and there’s nothing you can do.
The effort required to get back on Reddit is just way to high for day to day usage, so I just stay on here mostly. I still read Reddit for niche stuff from time to time, but yeah it does suck to just read and never be allowed to comment.

They literally banned me for “abusing the report feature” like I’m sorry are you asking me NOT to report heinous bigotry?? Fuck reddit and fuck spez
Really damn
I evaded my lifetime ban for more than 5 years on my new main.
The hell are you posting there?!Yeah these posts by people who consistently get banned always have me feeling a little skeptical (no shade on OP if legit).
Like what did they do tho
I wonder if it might be one or two admins who power trip. They’re just as human as the rest of us after all.
Powertripping or just arbitrarily making poorly thought out split decisions.
I just went to check and it looks like they were banned for asking somebody to kill themselves…? Feels like maybe they shouldn’t be doing that, regardless of whether or not they were on their fifth account.
Yeah that’s a ‘go fuck yourself’ type deal. If that’s what OP did, then that’s what I’m telling them. To go fuck themselves. (And also to stop playing the victim here)
And the thing is Reddit doesn’t go straight for the perma. A user generally has to have a history of warnings and smaller bans first.
I know this doesn’t apply to all but it applies to many: I used to mod a sub that I made like 15 years ago and I have seen the worst behavior from people over the years - deranged people who feel they are the center of the world and behave in insane ways - they disappear after a small admin ban and when it’s over, they’ll come back even stupider and angrier. And the best, the best, the best and most predictable part is when they portray it as being banned over one thing. No, it was a banning for a pattern of being a heinous cretin.
From what we see in this very post and comments, it fits the archetype.
Nothing ;-; I am chill, I swear, I was just a bit toxic in my first account
A bit?
Feels like there is more to the story.
Look at small FUCK SPEZ on the right quarter. It has some brony art.
Maybe they wouldn’t have problem with ban evasion if they weren’t giving out bans the drop of a hat
That’s not exclusive to Reddit.
Looks at 196 here on Lemmy and their massive pissy baby ban list.
Edit: If you disagree, go look at the bans and their reasoning in the mod log. It’s insane, and I mean that word in the literal sense. Some fun things: they ban people for not agreeing with them vocally enough. They’ve banned people for arguing that the world isn’t beyond saving if we try. They’ve banned because (and I quote) “Get out of here with that my children matter shit”. It’s a lunatic brigade run by a clown.
196?
They are something else. Think like TheDonald was on Reddit, but for trans people and memes.
My first exposure to them was a thread by a mod saying that you MUST post absolute and unconditional not just approval, but promotion of what they say politically or you will be banned. It was fucking wild and nearly put me off Lemmy altogether.
You spent like a whole day arguing about what centrism is and calling everyone disagreeing with you stupid. That’s why you got banned from 196. You know all that is public, right?
I spent about an hour and kept getting reply notifications, just like the one I got now for this (now over a month old) post. I reply. I like to interact. It’s not arguing, it was legitimate discussion, and yes, I was discussing how people like to strawman others. To my mind, it was civil.
The message I got from the mod was - nearly word for word - “get the fuck out of here with that my children matter bullshit.”
I did not misrepresent the situation.
As an addendum, the thread were I was banned was not my first exposure to them. You may be conflating two interactions.
Everything is being automated. The Admins are automated. The mods are increasingly automated. The subs are filled with botspam. The comments (have always been, but are now overwhelmingly) filled with bot-chatter.
The end goal of Reddit is to automate away anything that might cut into the company’s bottom line. I’m convinced they’re going to functionally do away with the comments section sooner or later. Just set up a byzantine set of bureaucratic hurdles that no human can actually clear. Then all that’s left is the bots, and all you are allowed to do is look through the glass at the simulation.
Reddit sucks
True

I got banned for ban evasion when I logged in at a public library. I have never been banned before. I appealed and got denied.
It was a 10 year old account 50k karma, just like that. A little upset but what can you do?
Quit reddit lol
Just ask Spez’s best bud u/drewiepoodle about how to evade bans, they’re an expert.
Who is that? 🤔
