I’m up to 92 so far. A mix of non English, furry and hentai porn, and a few I just don’t see the point of. I’ve got 6 or 7 users to, mostly bots that repost reddit content, and the piped link bot.

    I just blocked Politics.

I felt that politics posts and discussions on reddit led to a separation of communities and echo chamber when platforms like that an Lemmy would ideally, be politics free.

It leads to a more friendly positive and inclusive place to be.

I think it would be impossible to keep politics off Lemmy so best I can do for now is filter it out.

I’d say go for it. Political discussion on Lemmy is just inflammatory hot garbage, your sanity will thank you for staying away.

I don’t mind it in general, but partisan politics reeks of the bot-infested/bad-faith experience we used to get at the old place.

Ya, I tested the waters there and it’s filled with some truly rabid individuals. That was an easy block decision.

Not a whole lot (4 communities, 7 people, 3 domains), but posting to mention that if you’re on kbin.social, you can block by domain like so:

    https://kbin.social/d/facebook.com

Block button is on the right in the domain information panel.

Not sure if Lemmy has this feature yet.

All the meme ones that keep flooding /All. I‘m at around 7 so far?

You can choose to filter by language in the Lemmy ui directly. I selected English and Unspecified and it eliminated all the German, dutch and Philippine subs.

This is useful thanks. Ive been blocking all the non English c/'s in All but I’ve now updated language in the Lemmy web settings. Cheers

Because if you don’t select which language you’re posting in, it gets posted as undefined. That’s why in the settings it warns you not to unselect undefined, or you’ll get almost no content.

I swear the people posting to memes are all 12 years old. There’s only so many “when the teacher sees you playing on your DS” ‘memes’ I can take.

My understanding is that the only “rule” is that if you visit the page, you have to post something. It doesn’t matter what. So the premise is that people are posting something random on their phone, and referring to the only rule in the post title, as if it’s an obligation. “Per the rules, I am posting…” etc.

          I think. I don’t know. I’m in my 30s, so apparently I don’t understand the internet anymore.

On my single user instance All and Subscribed are the same so none.

I block some users who insulted me and weren’t interrmested in discussiond. And I block threads.com

It’s possible if you’re the only user on the instance and you subscribe to everything you search.

I’m on the largest lemmy instance there is, definitely not the only user.

And I don’t mean to knock the stuff I block, it’s just not for me. If you like furry hentai, do your thing dude.

    A lot, mostly porn.

I’m not morally opposed to porn–but like 99.9% is aimed at straight men, or is the Disney-style furry art, and it does NOTHING for me. It’s like being drowned in, I dunno…football communities. It’s boring as shit and I Just. Don’t. Care.

How are y’all seeing all this porn and furry stuff?

I don’t see any of it on my /all/ feed. There’s like, some girls and boobs and stuff occasionally, but it’s rare.

I wonder if it’s instance specific. I can see the porn communities but no posts show up in them for me on my lemmy.one account.

I know initially porn was blocked lemmy-wide and has only recently started rolling out.

Exactly. I have absolute nothing against porn…I just am not interested and don’t want it flooding and dominating my feed.

102 so far. It’s mostly porn and the creepy hentai and furry stuff, some of the foreign language communities that get through the filters, and things like different sports, that I’m never going to be interested in.

As other people have said, I want to be able to browse through All to discover new content, but there’s no point in seeing things that I’m never going to like.

I got curious and went to look… 300 yep… most being from specific cities or countries, porn, sports teams, brands (just apple products I think it’s 6 or 7) and crypto coins. And also 9 edgelords who should go back to 4chan.

I like to browse the All feed to see new stuff, but there are things I know I’m never going to want to see, so it’s nice to have all of that not even show up rather than wade through it to see other stuff.

What? Why are you blocking communities so much? Just go through the list of communities and subscribe to what appeals you you then just browse subscriptions.

Not speaking for OP, but I do it because if you block communities they don’t show up when you browse by “all”. That’s my preferred way to find new stuff (even if it’s meme heavy). I like that it’s as easy to hide communities I’m not interested in as it is to subscribe to new communities. It’s a great feature.

Yep, this is why. I browsr All often to find new stuff and don’t want to wade through all the other stuff.
